Anyone running those wireless dongles for their apple carplay? carplay2air seems to be the gucci brand, or the originator. but now of course like an electronic, there are tons of copys and knockoffs. I got one coming from aliexpress that was $40. we'll see how it works.

I don't do the Apple thing but I have a cheap bluetooth/aux adapter in my element that works great.

I wish I had Apple CarPlay. We've only got Dodge's UConnect and it sucks. I'd thought about getting one of the Alexa Car devices but the reviews have been terrible. I just really want to figure out how to control Spotify through Siri.

"Hey siri, play Taylor Swift on Spotify"

Worked for me with my dodge disconnect system.
Then I put in a pioneer unit that had both carplay and Android auto.

Thanks! I've just not actually thought to try it - the other problem being is that usually my wife and kids are in the car at the same time and I'm imagining saying that and all of a sudden we've got 4 iPhones all playing Taylor Swift. :D

Make sure your phone is set as primary and it will just be yours. And make them disconnect hey Siri lol

But yes Uconnect is hot trash

Your phone will recognize your voice and theirs shouldn't assuming you've all done the voice training.

our new car (new to us) was just at the cusp of getting car play for vw (2016) so i've been looking into the car play retrofits which are considerable money but most of the retrofits i've seen make it wireles too, which is a huge bonus. because i don't know why even in 2020 we still have to use a fucking cord to play music in a brand new car

Just go buy a pioneer or kenwood after market deck for a couple quid. Takes maybe 30 mins to install. Did it on the wife's last year.

its funny, i don't care a whole lot about it tbh. like if i can bluetooth my music, that's great. but my partner is obsessed with it. She basically said she can't drive another car without it. she has to have google maps up if its only to get to the grocery store and back.
and i think its stupid to have to plug your phone in to use it. it would be a different story if it were wireless

My phone battery is junk so it’s habit to plug my phone in as soon as I get in

The biggest problem I have with Uconnect is how long it takes to pick up the bluetooth pairing. I either have to sit with the car running for almost 2 minutes or (illegally) pick up my phone at an intersection or something once it has connected to start playing what I want to listen to. That's why I need to get Siri figured out for the most part.

Same. I’m out of my subdivision before it even connects if it connects at all. Sometimes the controls on the screen will work, sometimes you need to hit them on the phone to make the head unit work again. I have a new ford on the way with sync 3 and car play, which will be an improvement

My VW ('18 R) usually is connected to my phone before I'm even belted in. I have a Ram truck on order (great timing) with uconnect. I don't use my phone much for music but i do like hands free for the phone. Guess I will see first hand how shitty it is.

I was only responding to the bluetooth portion, I just chuck an sd card in the slot for music. Carplay and android auto both need a cable.
