book your appt early if you are going to a tire shop, most places book a couple weeks in advance, especially in November.

I've got access to a tire changer, just the only thing to worry about will be balancing them.

Winter beater came with winters so I'm already to go. Last years first real snow was like Nov 18th or 19th (there's a thread somewhere with me describing my spinning on the Bedford Highway :o ) I'm driving the summer beast as long as possible before switching over.

put mine on last week. my friend hit black ice today and rolled his truck over. it's definitely cold enough out in the mornings now for icy spots.

well i'm not saying the Duelers are fantastic in the snow, they just seem to be decent for an all season tire if they are newish.

I'm not expecting fantastic, that's for sure. But knowing they're at least somewhat decent (yes they've only got 2600kms on them) is good enough for me.

changed my mind. Wifes car goes in monday for the swap. She works a good distance from home so I'd rather her not get stuck on the drive home in a storm without them.

Very good read, and its all true. I've sold winter tires to people who swore they would never "waste their money" on winter tires, than they come back weeks later for another appointment and inform me they never imagined the tires would make such a huge difference...most never go back to all seasons in the winter again. People who say All seasons are fine for the winter are usually the same people who have never driven with winter tires.

I've honestly never gone a winter without winter tires either which is why I said I'd be the idiot in january forging around for some, but my plan of action is to run the stock tires through the winter and again next summer, buy Good Winters next fall to put on the alloys , and then new rims & tires the spring after that.

I want the new rims for next summer but am too cheap to waste a perfectly good set of tires that came with the Santa Fe.

I'll eat my own words if I end up banging up some snow bank or someones rear bumper this winter though.

I'd likely get the same amount with 2500kms as I would with 10,000kms

And it will give me enough time to save up for the leap from 18" to 20" perhaps as well

My winters have been on since the end of August LOL. Got rid of my summers due to the shit camber/toe in wear on them due to Honda not putting the right length upper control arms on the 06-07 civics. Threw on the winters although the rears were pretty much cooked anyway. Grabbing some new ice tires in the next couple weeks though, might actually go studded for this Alberta winter though.

I will be going out to my garage soon and swapping the Subaru's tires, now that my son travels in our car I feel the need to make sure we are ready for any weather conditions.

Picked a set of Hankook Ipike studded tires up yesterday for my car for 300 bucks. They have about 1500km's on them. They don't even have any where on the tread and the studs still have the little nipples on top of them. Now to get my camber kit for the back of my car so I can install them.

Been driving in NS and NB winters for 14 years now and only two years of those did I have winters. And 0 of those years did I have a accident or even a close call. So I will go with option b of not putting winters on at all.

Now as a side note, I don't dispute the arguments as to how winters work better, don't freeze, etc, etc...but after 14 years I think 95% of safe winter driving is the driver.

Also for the record, I've bought brand new winter tires before and used them a season, they were great.

I've got the work truck this month and my inspection is due next month, so I'll probably wait until some time in December so I can have it all done at once.

Already on one vehicle simply because I had it in for maintenance and they were rotating the tires so got them to throw them on.

I'll put them on the other vehicle somewhere near the end of the month.
