First time buying a engine, what should I look at when I go to see this engine and tranny set? - Corrosion - Leaking gaskets - Can you compression test an engine that isnt in a car? I would assume so. - Acc belts - Pull the plugs to check for oil/running rich - Pull the head and check the timing at TDC He claims that it has a centerforce stage 2 clutch, could I tell by looking at it? He also says it has 139 xxx KMs Is the only way to really know what shape it is in is to tear it apart correct or is there visuals I can check? Im working with "420sx" anyone know him or buy stuff from him. Kyle *edited for more info*
Never never buy an engine wiht out hearing it run. that is all i can offer because i have never had to buy one, but that is what everyone says
Wait.. if thats true then why do people buy the used engines and front clips from japan without seeing it at all before they purchase..
Most of the time these clips are from reputeable companies. See if you can find a few other people that have done business with this dude you are working with. They may be able to give some insight on his honesty.
Re: What to look for when buying a used engine (KA24E) + Tra Thanks for that helpful insite will all your experence, I mean hell instead of helping me " " is good enough I guess.
I don't see why you couldn't do a compression check on the floor, or a leakdown test. Just strap the engine down really well in approx the same orientation it would sit in the car, hook up a bell housing and starter, put 12v to the starter and turn it over. Leakdown would be even easier. To tell you the truth though, I wouldn't buy a used engine to put in my car unless it was getting a full rebuild anyway. Why go through all the trouble of yanking an old one out when you might be doing it again in 2 months. Rebulid parts probably won't cost more than $500
Well my tranny is fucked, and I need that he wont part with them as seperate items.. so im getting the engine as well as the tranny.
Yeah but this could at least tell you if all cylinders are in roughly the same condition. Its worth a shot if he desperatly wants to do it. Not saying it would be my plan of attack
hey, i know mike well (420sx), i actually used to own the car this motor came out of. when i bought it , had 103,000 km. It does have the centre force clutch, and when we took it out of his car it ran top notch. All we did was take it out and sit it on a pallot and covered it over. It has not been opend up or had anything touched since then. You should have no trouble with it, it is a strong motor and tranny.
Thanks, Man my 2 drives with pickups that I had lined up fell through and cant come anymore Any chance he would deliver? I tryed these super desperate moves : http://www.lowmotion.org/viewtopic.php?t=28898 http://www.reality-check.ca/viewtopic.php?t=10085 I have a feeling no one will help me out...
