A buddy of mine told me that I have to put a "Beware of Dog" sign on my property so if a thief tries to rob me and gets bitten by Keira I won't get sued

Is that possible? Do I have to have sign somewhere?

You should have a sign up not just for theives. Its good for people that come over that might be afraid of dogs, or at least so they have a heads up. You can be sued for anything. Whether the lawsuit will be successful will depend on a lot of things and a sign will be only one part of it.

I could never get a straight answer about this. Some say that yes you should for that purpose, others say don't because it makes your dog look like a dangerous dog... Maybe one that says something like Dog on Patrol or something rather than Beware of Dog is the safest???

Fuck that. Don't put up a sign. If people come to the door and are afraid of dogs they will have tons of time to turn around and leave once they hear her barking like crazy inside. Plus there's windows right by the door, so they'll see her and she'll see them. And even if they aren't afraid of dogs they'll be scared of her!

Does Baris really think that either of his two dumb mutts would bite a theif? LOL

I've heard putting up a sign is the equivalent of saying "I know my dog is dangerous" and if your dog ever did bite someone it looks bad.

He said they got a fine for not having a sign and Mikey snarled at the mailman  (Mikey is one of those small fluffy dog)

That is my concern as well. Maybe I should put something like "A dog and its servent lives here" ?

I'd be careful with the wording as it might appear that you have an attack/guard dog

If i was going to put anything up, it would just say Dog on premises or something along those lines.

We had beware of dog signs put up before we even got Finlay. Figured it could help keep the riff raff away anyway

Or see if you can get one of those yellow signs with just a picture of a dog or the word DOG. Simple and to the point. Means there's a dog but isn't saying "come in and i'll bite"

Didn't have a sign when Boomer was alive and still don't now. Kayo's bark is good enough

Technically if there was no posted warning and trespasser was bitten you would be liable for the damages. Whether or not it would hold up in court is another story unless they could prove that you had deliberately left the dog at home without a warning in order to harm potential trespassers.

But then again they would need to prove that you had expected this to happen and did not put up a warning for that express reason...

    fucking hated law lol
