Vees return to Halifax in just 2 days

Your Halifax Mooseheads will be paying tribute to the 3-time Calder Cup Champion Nova Scotia Voyageurs this Friday, February 27th when they host the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles at 7pm. To highlight the event, the Moose will be wearing special Nova Scotia Voyageurs jerseys.

It has been 25 years since the Nova Scotia Voyageurs, the farm club of the Montreal Canadiens, left Halifax. The Vees were the first AHL team in Atlantic Canada and the first Canadian team to win the Calder Cup when they accomplished the feat in 1972, 1976, and again in 1977. The Vees boast an impressive list of alumni players including Larry Robinson, Yvon Lambert, Pierre Mondou, Guy Charbonneau and Mike McPhee. Legendary coaches Al MacNeil (1971-77) and John Brophy (1981-84) both coached the Vees while in Halifax.

Some of the events taking place this night will include:

    - Fans encouraged to dress in 70's garb or Nova Scotia Voyageurs paraphernalia. Prizes will be rewarded to the best dressed at the game.

    - Former Vees to be on hand for Official Puck Drop. The Mooseheads will welcome a small handful of ex-Vees who will be on hand Friday for the official puck drop to kick off the event.

    - Retro Vees Shirts on Sale at Antlers. A limited number of Vees T-shirts will be for sale at Antlers Merchandise Store as well as the Kiosk on the concourse during the game for just $10
taxes in. Proceeds will go to the IWK.

    - Vees Calder Cup Banners on display. The Nova Scotia Calder Cup banners of 1972, 1976 and 1977 will be on display in the South End of the Metro Centre for this event.

    - Popcorn and Pop for just $4! As part of the Vees Night festivities, the good folks at Compass Foods will be offering Popcorn and Pop combos for just a couple twoonies.

    - Clappers to first 3000 fans. The first 3000 fans at the game will receive a free Mooseheads clapper to help cheer on the Moose.

    - Special GameDay Program. Special Gameday Programs will also be available for $2 with proceeds going to Special Olympics. The Gameday program will include a collection of information on the Nova Scotia Voyageurs, including Vees All-Time Leaders, a special Vees Quiz, tidbits on the team and several pictures from the past.

    - Final 4 in the Fans' 15. Before the game the Mooseheads will reveal the Fan's Choice for # 4 in the Fans' 15.

Plus a few more surprises that will flash us back to the time when the Vees ruled Halifax!
