Some councilors wanted to bill Uber a per trip fee. What is with this city trying to bleed the fucking citizens dry??
Halifax is one of the few places in the world right now where Uber/Lyft can think about making a profit - rest of the world, COVID precautions make taking a Lyft/Uber a non-option. I used to be a heavy Lyft user - now... I get emails/offers from Lyft 3-5 times a week about free/50-75% off my next 5 rides just trying to get back in business. All to say - I'm sure whatever fines/taxes/whatever caused this not to happen previously are now being met with glee.
I'm sure a lot will still be iffy to hop in a strangers car
That’s the dumbest shit I ever heard. The sooner we can get some of these old fucks out of council and some fresh young people in, the better.
I was surprised Lindell Smith opposed it.
People still need taxis, those same people would probably be fine with Uber.
It is the same as a Taxi, likely better, as you see a picture of who is coming and what they are showing up in. Cab is more of a crap shoot.
Major issues in larger cities as people watch druggies on the street go from shooting up to getting in their car to go pick up Lyft/Uber clients.
I'd feel safer in a Taxi as the drivers seem to be vetted to a higher degree than uber.
That being said I have taken 5 cab rides in the past 15 years, bring on the competition
cant wait until Bobs dies a miserable death. That is the worst cab company going
What more does the Taxi industry do?
"Drivers will need criminal background, child abuse registry and vulnerable persons checks every year"
