The RCMP is hiring! RCMP launches recruiting advertising campaign

Ottawa - February 23, 2009 - The Royal Canadian Mounted Police has launched its third national recruiting advertising campaign. Featuring RCMP members performing day-to-day operational activities, this campaign truly demonstrates that the RCMP offers “a career nowhere near ordinary.”

The RCMP is recruiting 2,000 cadets per year over the next few years to meet increased demands for police services across the country.

The month long advertising campaign will run until the end of March 2009 and will include advertising through Internet search engines, entertainment sites, job search sites, and networking sites such as Facebook. Ads will also run on radio stations, be featured in career-focused and Aboriginal publications as well as in public transit vehicles and fitness centres.

Offering more than 150 different types of operational and administrative duties, the RCMP provides challenging and meaningful career opportunities for those who want to make a difference in the lives of Canadians.

The RCMP has more than 27,000 employees and provides municipal and provincial policing services in eight provinces (excludes Ontario and Quebec) and all three territories, as well as federal policing services across the country.

RCMP applicants must have Canadian citizenship, be 19 years or older (may begin the application process at 18), be of good character, proficient in English or French and have a high school diploma or equivalent. Candidates must also possess a valid Canadian driver's license and meet medical/health standards.

They've been hiring since they were formed. Its how they replace the people that quit, retire or die.

I started the process but got spooked by the polygraph.

My mother told me today about a coworker of hers. They work for RBC. He's been with bank for ~20 years, leaving in September for training in Regina. He applied and was rejected before he started with RBC. Now that they're hiring, a 55 year old, 5'9'' male can get in.. :eek3:

It was my goal when I entered university, but I was told that as a white male I didn't stand a good chance. Times have changed.

EPS is 4 days on 4 off, 50k base your first year. You worked on a rig for years, as did I, and you can die just as easily there. I dunno if maybe i'm getting old, or getting stupid, but i'm no longer willing to give up my life and work like a retard just to make 50k more than your average joe..I'd much rather make half as much and live somewhere/do something i actually enjoy

The first few years of living in the middle of no where, dealing with societies worst probably wouldn't be the best but it's a means to an end. At the same if you're waaaay up north you're making way more then base salary plus you have the perks of being flown anywhere you want twice a year for two months at a time. Also there is so much more to the RCMP then what you see on the average day. Eventually you could be posted to one of the Canadian embassies or consulates around the world and the days of Hay River or Surrey would be a long lost memory. I'm sure I could handle living in Buenos Aires, Madrid, London etc. for a while. It's also one a the few jobs that isn't affected by the state of the global economy, job security is never an issue and depending on when you retire you will continue to receive in the range of 50 per cent of your best salary just to walk to the end of your drive way everyday. Definitely not a job for everyone though. Horses for courses :)

OH i applied last year, and passed everything, but under final review they told me to re-apply next year, after passing everything at the top the told me, i know i was the fastest PARE every time i ran it, i may throw my applacition in sept see what happens again. And as far as the pay they are guaranteed to be top 3 in Canada which isnt bad most officers i know make 100k with over time and bonuses, so they claim

    oh for law enforcement.

And I bet there is only a very small fraction of constables making $100k a year.

It should also note in the article that if you are a white male, you need not apply. Much the same as becoming a firefighter, most of their recruitment drives are targeted and they give special priority to minorities/women.

Although this is a larger drive so they may actually accept a few white males this time

I am going to a party tommorow night for my white male friend who just passed depo and got posted.

Attending will be two white male fellows from my regiment who became firefighters in the last year.

Well congrats to all of you. I'm not saying it doesn't happen. I just know a lot of people who seem to have been passed over for less qualified people. Maybe they are all lying to me and they fucked up and couldn't get in for other reasons.

It just seems like it does happen quite a bit. Personally, I don't care what color or sex the cop is, I hate them all equally when they throw me in the drunk tank.

I second this, a friend graduated earlier this week, he's back in town to ship some clothes and personal stuff. He's a regular white guy from NS.

YES he is going to some small town way up north, BUT point is he and several others from here did get in.

I third it, a friend's hubby just got accepted and he is a white male.

My understanding is there is a lot more flexibility around where you are shipped first time out now. They realized that it was discouraging people from applying.

I have 2 white friends who just got hired with the fire dept. Don't let your skin color deter you from applying.
