Halifax is 7th
Full list found here
Halifax is relatively safe city for the general populace our violent crimes for the majority are between people who know each other, they are not random acts of violence
I feel perfectly safe in Halifax
well at least Halifax county is ranked 84th...
HALIFAX COUNTY, , N.S. 169627 -63.96% 84
The Most Dangerous Cities in Canada: Overall crime score—by population
Halifax is 23rd on that list
Suburbs > City
That's amazing considering Halifax County doesn't exist
that's what i thought...
It would be interesting to see where we rank if they took all the bullshit that happens between these people that know each other out.
Is this not just the same list just sorted by population? Halifax may be number 23 on the list as far as that goes but is still ranked #7
And people think Toronto is bad...
I was wondering the same thing.
This can't be good for local tourism.
"The three cities share several things in common: much of the crime is rooted in poor, inner-city cores and targets its most vulnerable citizens. There is a large gang presence feeding off the drug trade and other illegal activities. Those areas also house a young transient population, with a low level of education, substandard housing and high levels of unemployment, broken homes, addictions and psychiatric issues—all risk factors for crime. They have proportionately the highest urban Aboriginal populations among major cities, about 10 per cent. This is a predominately young population, burdened with risk factors. “They are 10 times more likely to be victims and suspects,” says Neil Boyd, a criminologist at Simon Fraser University. “It’s basically a very tragic reality.”
I'm not saying, i'm just sayin...
Prince George in number 4, I find that so hard to believe [/SARCASM]
Seriously? Halifax has been a "municpality" for as long as I can remember.
The country still "technically" exists...it is just referred to as the HRM now.
Seriously? Do you think they just abolished the county of Halifax?
I'd like to know where they get some of their population figures from. There is no way Oromocto has over 50,000 people, no wonder it's ranked so high per capita.
50k when no one's sent to the middle east maybe.
Its second last in the rankings...that doesn't seem to bad to me.
No, that's what I'm saying. The population is about 9,000 IIRC. If they dilute the crime they have over 50,000 people it would be a much lower percentage than it would be over ~9,000, thus placing them lower on the list.
If you stay away from the pubs, sprytown, the square,98% of the darkside you have like a 99.9% chance of never even seeing crime take place
Tell that to all the people who have been swarmed, beaten and robbed in Halfax and Dartmouth by total strangers.
Saint John is the sexual assault capital of Canada!
I never really hear anything bad about Saskatoon.
That's because they kill anyone who talks
I haven't heard much of swarmings lately, has there been many?
At least Halifax is near the top of some kind of list
That sounds like a great slogan for a tourist Ad.
The top 3 are all full of indians
Come to Saint John....You'll get lucky, whether you like it or not
