Global is showing their coverage of last years Targa Newfoundland Saturday at 7pm. Should be good for a watch. Some local competitors and amazing cars from all over the world!
actually thinking of going over this year. I have the time booked off...just need to work out a few details. defo have to check out the show on the weekend.
If you see a light blue early 70's BMW 2002, that is my uncle and cousin. This was their second year running. I've seen some in car footage and it looks like a blast!
NastyBoy: Its great, my wife and I are already worked up to go back again this year, though going purely to spectate would probably be tiring chasing the event around half the island.
I was posted in Gander, NL for the summer and volunteered for the few days in Gander and went to the big party in St Johns. It was a blast ! If you ever plan a vacation to NL and you are into mottorsports - make it in Sept when they run Targa -weather is still great there. Cheers
The weather wasn't so great last year. We watched all the coverage from 03 where they were cooking their asses off and packed nothing but shorts and T-Shirts, we ended up in the cold/wind/rain all week FREEZING our asses off. Hell on one of the early stages it SNOWED. The Argentia ferry was cancelled because of severe wind so we had to haul ass 10 hours across the island to Port Au Basques. Lots of teams had to do the same or leave their cars and ship them out later. Holy mess.
was great to watch! wish it was longer with more coverage though Anyone know if sean hyland raced this event. didnt speak of him on the show.
Yeah, the coverage was a bit stunted this year. There were a few competitors that totally got the shaft. One of the competitors on the TNF message board called the coverage 'Bill and Tammy's Summer Vacation to Newfoundland' which isn't far off. I guess thats to be expected from a show that isn't really targeted at a motorsports audience. I know there was a SHM Mustang there but I don't remember seeing him directly. Everybody looks the same in their helmets and everyone was a number rather than a name when you're dealing with checkpoints.
thats the fun of it isn't it? i'll probly try to pick a couple big checkpoints or something and just take it from there.
Yeah, true enough, if you post on Targa Newfoundland I'm sure you can get a good laundry list of the best places to watch. There's some good standbys, anywhere in Gander, the bridge at Marystown, pretty much anywhere they had cameras for the show. I got my tape back from TV2Go today, I'll rip and re-encode it and throw it up. I've got pretty much every car going through Gander on it.
I had the pleasure of driving the targa car this week... the damn thing has NO body roll at all... its freakin sweet
I've been slack and haven't ripped the tape yet. I just rebuilt my machine so I have to get around to reinstalling Vegas Video. I'll have it up by the weekend though. There's a bunch more at http://pics.spoon.org/Cars Not many exciting shots though. I was too busy to take pictures when the cars were in action for the most part.
Here's a quick compilation of clips from a bridge outside Marystown. (I think, we covered so much of the damn island that week I have trouble remembering what was where. ) Some of the nicer/faster cars anyway. I did up my gander footage but I need to trim it/make it more interesting, its 20 minutes straight of cars hauling around the same corner. Don't figure anyone is going to want to download 50 megs of that. http://spoon.org/stuff/Marystown-Bridge.wmv (6.8 megs, Save as please)
