this is my first thread! anyway i feel the need to rant right now. I'm living in a house with 3 other people, only one of which I knew before. my roomate down stairs is constantly taking our laundry out of the washer or dryer without asking us. Its not like we leave it in there for days or are always using it but if we do leave it in there it's because we still need the washer/dryer! It really doesnt take a whole lot to yell up to us and ask if we're done but no he just takes it out and leaves it layin around the basement and then when we go down to put it in the dryer, his stuff is in there. I really dont want him touchin my underwear! He's even taken stuff out of the dryer before it was even dry!! I really dont want a confrontation but this is annoying!

No way! If you forget your stuff in the washer/dryer, it is totally fine for the next housemate to come along and put that stuff on top of the washer/dryer. You've lost your turn. At least thats how it has been wherever I've lived.. You have to keep on top of the washer/dryer when sharing a place.. I do agree that the nice thing to do, yeah, would be to yell up if you're within earshot. Maybe bring that up in a non-confrontational situation, but I think he is in the right to remove your stuff.

Yeah, if you're sharing a washer/dryer it's your own responsibility to stay on top of that shit. You know how long a cycle takes, it's not difficult to get to it as it finishes. In fact if I was him I'd be pissed I always had to take your shit out of the goddamn washer/dryer. It's just common courtesy.

I usually get it out on time!! but if i ever leave it in, its not in for long like maybe 10-20 minutes and its because i have another load to do! If he just asked if i was done with it before he took my stuff out it wouldnt be an issue

Had that problem before, I fixed it by putting a full bottle of Bleach in with the persons wash. Never had the problem after. My case was a little different though. sharing a washer with 100 or so people and the person would use the washer as he pleased, if the wash wasn't even finnished he'd take it out and put it on the floor soaking with soap.

If rob coolen was there he'd take all your underwear, and put them in cereal boxes.

    then eat the cereal boxes.

Here theres 5 washers and 5 dryers for 3 residences...depending on which res people go to for their laundry. If you leave your laundry sitting there...I wait 5-10 mins, if you don't show up, I take it out. It's not fair to anyone else if you leave your clothes sitting around in the washer.

I gotta agree with TBP on this one. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the next person taking your shit out of the dryer if you didn't take it out. Their clothes have to get washed / dried too. I'm not going to wait around and hope you take your stuff out that day. If you aren't comfortable enough to have someone you live with move your clean clothes because you didn't take your stuff out of the dryer, you should find a new roommate or get over it.

It's not like they're throwing your clean clothes on the floor.

IMO out of respect your roomate should never even have the chance to have to move your clothes...it's not rocket science. Use a timer...

    Holy crap!

    3 people to one washer/dryer??

How often do youse wash your clothes??? I mean what are the chances of all you doing your shit at the same time?? Are they in use 24/7??

I lived with 5 people in one place and very rarely did I have to take other peoples shit out...

If I leave my stuff in the washer/dryer, it's usually because I've forgotten about it. But I would expect people to take it out - I wouldn't want to hold them up on doing their own laundry because it's a pain in the ass. When people take my stuff out of the washer though, it would be nice if they'd put it in the dryer. If someone has to put up with my laundry though, I do apologize/thank them.

My old roomate would get in a snit if I moved her laundry. Once I took her clothes out of the dryer after waiting for three hours. I had to get up at 5:30 for work the next morning. it was 11:00 and I needed my uniform to be clean. She got in a snit at me and wouldn't talk to me for two days. :wtf: I hope you aren't that extreme.

i dont talk to him anyway lol he's like a hermit that lives in the basement! I really never forget about my laundry. He hears it as soon as it stops and i swear he runs and take my stuff out. I do agree if i was to leave it in for hours that anyone has the right to remove it so they can have use the washer/dryer but when its a matter of less than a half hour he can wait or ask!

Haha that's it? I wish that had been the least of my problems with my (former) roommate. Can't keep a job for more than 6 months, and subsequently can't pay rent or bills (although he does have money to get 2 cats, go out all the time, buy new things, etc.), mouths off at the super (who's a total sweetheart) when she asks him to pay his rent which is 3 weeks overdue, leaves bowls of KD in the fridge for a month, and is a general asshole and thief.

Good luck with yours though :D
