My dad used to have 'snowball' fights with the stuff back when he first joined the Navy. He's fine. I'm sure you'll be fine.
Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry7130e/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/126) Its 100x more toxic in the winter due to the cold windchills and greenbelts.
Sounds like a serious question to me Were you exploring some place you shouldn't have been? I'm unaware of asbestos being any less harmful because of the outdoor temperatures/weather but I have no training or understanding of it all so my post is pretty much useless.
I have a photography assignment that has to do with decay/dilapidation and we were gonna hit up that old hospital again.. but fuck.

Yea if you even suspect that building may contain asbestos I would say avoid if don't have the training and equipment to deal with it. There are plenty of other asbestos free sites around that you could use. www.uer.ca
I never thought of places like the prince of whales fort and stuff. Thanks a lot! And Getson... I dunno. I think I'll just avoid it. I've already been escorted out of there before which is another reason I'm hesitating. Thanks a lot guys.
I worked with sheet asbestos in neon sign shops for almost 10 years starting in Jr. high. It was used as pattern material for bending the glass letters/shapes. Eventually it was replaced by a fibreglass substitute but I've never had any side effects considering the amount of loose fibres that were floating in the air as we handled the often-brittle patterns.
My theory is that the asbestos is more 'still' during the deep cold of winter. I'd like to think I'm breathing in less toxins when I'm in a frozen abandoned building as opposed to a damp, moldy abandoned building in the spring/summer. I've always meant to wear my respirator in the old hospital but both trips I left it out of my bag by accident.. I know I've left there totally contaminated.. But I'm still alive
I know people who've been caught up there. They were about 3 seconds away from sending dogs in to flush them out when the decided to come of hiding and surrender to police. Let off with warnings but still... And its dangerous..! And not healthy! Not for amateurs, imo.
Before the entire place was shut down, one big section was closed because of the asbestos problem. Like, no one had gone in there for years. Why risk it?
Yeah, I'd use a respirator for sure if you're going to go in any place like that. Asbestos, however, isn't all that dangerous without longterm exposure. Breathing in any amount of airborne toxins is bad though. Wear a mask. A GOOD mask. I've never found a locked door
With all the fucking shreiking and screaming that went on when it was open, I dare say I'd be too terrified to go in there now
