Stock car racing is set to roar to life once again in New Brunswick’s North East in 2012.

Jason Carnahan and David Neilson, two gentlemen from the Moncton area who understand the importance of stock car racing to the Maritime community, have come together to purchase Miramichi City Speedway property. Carnahan, a former Miramichi native, has been known in recent years for piloting the #55 Chevrolet Impala Pro Stock at tracks throughout the region while Neilson has been involved with the team as a sponsor and supporter of Carnahan’s racing efforts.

“We are excited to bring racing back to the region in 2012,” said Carnahan of the purchase of the track, which has roots dating back as far as 1968. “We are focused on growing the Speedway for years to come and having races in front of packed crowds like I and many others from the area remember it was back in the day.”

When it comes to the program on the track, Carnahan is also planning on sticking to divisions that thrived when the track enjoyed those packed grandstands. “The schedule to start off the season will be business as usual. We plan to include the popular Demolition Derbies on the schedule as well as Street Stock and Four Cylinder. We are also planning an announcement in January regarding a major stock car event for September 28[SUP]th[/SUP],2012, which will see the Sportsman and Bandolero divisions joining our Street Stock drivers at the track. Miramichi racing fans have a lot to be excited about!”

While the closing date on the property is set for the Spring, they have been quite busy in the past few weeks. Jason, David and their employees have been on site putting in place infrastructure that will need to be in place for races to take place on the grounds. “We are in the process of putting in new washrooms, a canteen building, hospitality suites and a scoring tower for the season,” commented Carnahan on the work at the facility. “These are currently at a 50% completion. We are also looking at creating a larger pit area and expanding the parking for fans. We want to make this track a “must-stop” destination on every Maritime race fan’s schedule for years to come.”

While a website is currently in the works, fans are encouraged to check out the Speedway Miramichi Facebook Group to keep up-to-date on all the information on the track. The group can be found at https://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/6419263517/.
