My friend has a Formula Ford (1996 Euro Swift) for sale if any of you want more of a taste of road racing. Formula racing is very expensive however.

I can provide more information in PM's.

Is this an open event too or do you have to be a racer?

I'm pretty sure you need one of the bmw/race/soloI/ schools they hold up at the track. Next year for sure you should jump into one Joe. The solo I school is usually combined with the 1st solo I weekend in like early june I beleive.

BTW heres a copy of the results Woohoo for me hehe! Nice to see a bunch of new faces out to the track!

Yeah, to do a Solo 1 you have to at least done the Solo 1 school, and they would like that you've done the BMW school as well.

I'd love to do it, but I'm too paranoid of putting that much car into the trees. I'm gonna wait until I build my project car one of these years.

Scirocco: Having those results on hand to post so quickly don't have anything to do with the big highlights FTD line, do they?

Awesome day to day. I had a lot of fun. Shafft giving me a wave as he recovered from his near sping coming out of turn 10 was definately a highlight. :)

Are there anymore solo races at home depot that first time racers can try?

Home depot was schedualed for today, but was cancelled. The next and last event that first time drivers can participate in will most likely be in Truro next weekend. Aside from that, there is just the Solo 1 left at AMP this year which you wouldn't be able to qualify to enter for the reasons stated above.

And for those of you who have no clue what AMP is, here is an overhead pic.

Haha yeah its not too often I get to see my name in lights like that. Stuie's car is pretty cool to drive though.

You can thank Steve Watson for those results. He had them online last nite actually. That is great turnaround. And he had all the class points leaders and overall done as well!

Yeah, I saw that. Steve did an amazing job turning that around.
You looked like you were having fun in Stu's car, I could see your grin behind your tinted shield. I STILL don't know how you spun the car, hit 3 cones between two different gates yet stil stayed on course.... :)

Oh, and in the spirit of Joe.... here's me about to run.

And here's the cone that got trapped under the midpipe of my exhaust in corner 7 and got dragged back to the stop box underneath it.

Ugh, and I have to miss the next event because its likely going to be on Thanksgiving which I'm legally required to spend with my family.

    Grr.

Not a bad idea, actually. If you have a local Motorsports forum here, I can erase LoMo from my bookmarks. :)

I wouldnt make it "local" since we do have alot of non maritime members, however I think a general motorsports forum would be a good idea. Mind you, it's going to be dead from now until spring.

Man, I'm late on this thread!! But man, AMP was a blast. Too bad the car was pinging like a mofo....I was looking forward to taking advantage of alot more power, but we turned the timing WAYYY back. Bah, stupid 91 octane and closed paint stores (for toluene) :x :x

Well, this is how we do it.

20L of 91 octane pump gas
    20*91=1820

4L (1 gallon jug) of 114 octane toluene
    4*114=456

So, to calculate total octane number:
Octane=(Sum of above calculations)/(Total Liters of fuel)
    Octane=(1820+456)/(20+4)
    Octane=94.8

So, to get a fuel of 95 octane, use 20L of super gas and 4L of toluene.

    Fack, pinging sux0r!! :D :D

Jon, do you find that Toluene works better than the 104 additives out there?

Paul, do you mean like that "104 Octane Boost" stuff they sell in little bottles at Canadian tire?

Those are a waste IMO. When they talk about boosting the Octane 4 points (for example) that means it will take 91 Octane to 91.4 Octane.

Not to mention a bottle of that stuff costs about the same as a jug of toulene.

To be honest, we never tried them. But we've been told that they do nothing. The stuff in the bottle prolly has 104 octane, but there's only 500ml of it, so as dave says, it hardly increases the octane number in a tank of 25litres.

They prolly work well in a gas-powered RC, lawn mower, motorcycle, or something with a small gas tank though :D

They do a bit. We had to scrape up a bottle (NOS brand! W00t!) at Slemon when the pump monkey dropped regular into my tank. That'll teach me for accidentally driving into the Full service island. (They still HAVE full service islands??) No pinging after we poured the crap in. But it cost like $11. Ow. Probably would have been better off just throwing in a half tank of supreme but my codriver was a bit (lot) of a freak and didn't want to add the weight. :)

It shouldn't but it pings like a sonofabitch with anything less. Never been able to track it down. The timing is dead on. Probably some pretty nasty cylinders. :)

When we drove to Ottawa in July somwhow  a tank of regular got into the mix. Damned car sounded like a tractor and could barely climb hills.

Something has to be wrong with your car Gord, I can run either reg or 91 and see zero difference, I have even run reg for a Solo I, didn't notice a thing.
I would get a second timing check done, with a different gun.
