Looks like Roger isn't doing as well as people had hoped. He has now lost 3 of his last 4 fights. A shot at the UFC isn't looking so bright at this time. Personally, I've always thought TJ Grant was a better fighter and I am glad he got his shot first. Roger Hollett has for some reason, always been over-hyped by the fans in Halifax. http://mmamania.com/2009/02/21/mfc-20-results-and-fight-recaps-for-destined-for-greatness
Yeah, I heard this was his last shot at making it in the UFC. I went down to Bubbles Mansion last night to watch the fight. His face was bleeding badly within the first few minutes. I was a little surprised he tapped out so quickly after the chokehold.
wow....he got up there like the ref was standing them up....didn't look to defend himself getting up at all. Hopefully he learns and comes back better than ever.
It's the fight game, anything can happen. I'm sure Roger recoginzes that and knows that he can still fight. His record is still very good at 8-3 and its easy to fault someone after they lose. His 3 losses: first one he tore his ACL, MCL etc. Pretty hard to win when you can't stand up, he would have submitted Lew Polley even if his knee was sprained. Second loss was a 5 round decision. And the 3rd loss was this fight. I bet there is more than meets the eye here. It looked like Heath got him in the nose with the shoulder......this could have cause blood into his mouth/throat etc b/c it doesn't look like he even tried to escape the hold at all. Give it time. Maybe we'll see him on TUF 10.......I heard he had a successful tryout/interview and made it to the fights in Vegas, but not sure what happened there. If he gets on the show and does well, he might just get his shot in the UFC after all.
He's too tentative now. The way he fought before he blew out his knee and the way he fights now are completely different. He's too worried about getting hurt again is holding back too much. He used to be very aggressive and dominant....now not so much. Physically he's a great fighter and has all the skills, mentally....he's not ready to fight. Once he gets another win and gets the thought of getting injured out of his head I think we'll see the old Roger come back. Hopefully.
Roger is a counter-puncher, that has been obvious in all of his fights. I've never seen him be "very aggressive", but I bet he would be pretty damn scary. He's got a great background with his BJJ and MT and I don't think we've seen everything that he is capable of yet. I'd love to see him a true battle, b/c I think that's when he would be at his best. I do have to agree that his physical ability propably out-weighs his mental game, after getting his knee busted. He's probably close to putting that behind him now.
His background is actually boxing. He has incredibly heavy hands, but his kicks are even harder. He just doesn't throw them that often in fights because his hands usually take care of everything. I agree that he is a counter puncher but when he goes on the offensive it wins fights. Watch his fight against Ray Penny to see the aggressive side of Roger. If he could get that mentality he had then combined with his skills he has now would dominate any 205'er, just like he used to. My fingers are crossed for him getting on the next season of TUF. That's the break he needs and deserves. As long as he can get past the mental block he's been stuck behind since his injury I see him winning the show. Fuck I wish. That would be amazing, even just for one day. I have trained with Roger though.
Mystic taught Randy and Fedor everything they know. He has visualized being in over 100 professional cage fights as well. TTT for the Mystic show.
He has nothing to teach anyone. Although he is a bodyguard for a porn company, might not be so bad hanging out with him. I taught Randy and Fedor? Interesting since they've been in the industry long before I was really into MMA. Get some funny material before you post bullshit that doesn't make any sense. So how many cage fights have you been in? You claim to have been in one at a PFP event but you can't even tell anyone who you are. So I'm calling bs on that one. Everyone needs to get over me fighting, I don't even train anymore. So what if I like MMA, it's my favourite sport. Why can't I post about MMA related stuff without everyone making their bullshit comments?
I'm still avid in the sport, but I'm thinking about changing clubs so until I make up my mind I only train every now and then, not very often at all. There are reasons I won't get into that make me want to go to another gym that focuses on the careers of all their fighters and not just one fighter. I'm not the only one making this decision and career move. I don't want anyone to think I don't go the gym anymore. I'm still very focused at keeping myself in fight shape, I just don't train my muay thai and jiu jitsu anymore until I make a final decision. Because I answered a question as a fan of the sport.
aren't you worried that the layoff will set your skills back? im guessing its a short term decision. anywho...don't listen to the fuck sticks that are just trying to grind your gears.
Nah I'm not worried. My brother and I still get together and practice when we have time. Now that the weather is nice we can do our outdoor training again so it's all good. At the very least I can maintain my level while I make my decision.
While I feel silly for doing this, I take exception too his boldness. Another Mystic gem "I train with Roger, Ryan Jimmo and Clinton and everyone. I can hang with them. What's your point. Roger fights 205 and I fight 170/185 so that will never happen. But 2 minutes wouldn't be that bad. Stay mobile and stay on the outside. I have a longer reach. He'd in my way the most. But when it comes to beating up a mouthy fuck in a street fight, that I would have no problem with. Also if you knew what you were talking about you would know that Peter is an awesome fighter and kick my ass, but I bet I could do 2 minutes. Besides I never said I was the best in the world. In all seriousness my friends hate the fact that I don't believe in myself enough. It's my biggest hurdle. It's the thing that stands he knows his shit. I'm very proud to be a Titan MMA fighter. Most people quit after the first day with us." 01-20-2008, 04:34 PM #584 Mystik I'm where?..What?..Who? Mysyic, I'll ask Hubert (Head of Combat Sport in Nova Scotia) if you have been cleared. Another gem "I'll fight anyone on here. But you have to get cleared by the NSBA and meet me in a cage/ring. Whichever you prefer."
"I'm very proud to be a Titan MMA fighter. Most people quit after the first day with us." Imagine that.
"There are reasons I won't get into that make me want to go to another gym that focuses on the careers of all their fighters and not just one fighter. I'm not the only one making this decision and career move. " Mystic all the best with your "MMA Career." You have earned it bro.

And it's people like him that made Titans fall apart. When you walk into Titans you can instantly see two very distinct groups of people. The fighters and the douchebags there to ride their nuts. Which category do you think he falls under? No wonder I never feel like going there anymore. Especially when you have the douchebags who feel the need to hit as hard as they can during drills and sparring. This is why I'm thinking it's time to change to a real gym, like Titans used to be. Personally I don't care what people think of me. You can all think I'm full of shit all you want to, I know I'm not and so do my friends and family. What more do I need? So Gatorador you claim to be a "Titans MMA fighter". Really? Well prove it then. Everyone asks me for proof to everything damn thing I fucking say. Post your fight finder profile. So go ahead, let's see your big bad MMA record. Boots, do you know of a way I can post one of my songs on here? I'll just take the vocal track out of it and only post the music. I have no problem with that, I just don't want people ripping on my lyrics, which we all know everyone would.
