Would you say it's a bad idea for me to mess around with it? For instance... I've been pissed off b/c I have so much shit on my computer.. like when I type in certian web addys, instead of bringing up the site it'll go to "lycos" search or something. So I went into my regedit and deleted anything with "lycos" on it. I also deleted some "moodlogic" thing that I havent been able to get rid of. Is this a bad idea? Should i jsut deal with the annoyance? Or is deleting things that I know have nothing to do with my computer aokay?
Opening the registry is always a bad idea unless you have specific instructions from the software vender on what your looking for.
Ad-Aware and SpyBot Seek and Destroy are your best bet. Easy to use and very effective. And both are free to download.
Regedit = unless you :RTFM: Judging by how you're going, soon it will be time to open an MSDOS prompt and type "Format C:\", then type "y". Oh yea...make sure you have your windows CD handy!!
never touch the registry unless you want trouble or know what you are doing. even the simplest thing in there can cause many problems.
I used it first, I'm a smart one. But some of the stuff it still doesnt take off. Like this lycos thing, and the save on e bates thing.
Mkay. Here's the deal, I hope someone responds to this. WHen I type in certian websites, sometimes search.lycos comesu p instead of the website, but not in a popup. for example.. http://www.mentalpiracy.org/upload/whatthefuckiswrong.JPG But when I go through history, and click on the link, the site comes up fine. So I have ran adaware and search and destroy, both got rid of a shitload of junk, yet this problem still remains. Ideas? Any at all? Anything is welcome.
I've already run adaware 6 (I think thats the name, Im too tired to check) as well as the search and destroy one. And I'm still havin this prob.
format c:/ i would check maybe your run parameters in regedt32, but as for just wiping out keys in the reg - probably a bad idea
couldn't she hit ctrl alt del and look at what is running. Then make the lycose popup go, and then rehit alt ctrl del and compare it to the first time? Then she would see the offensive program's name. (and therefore find it and remove it?) Would that work?
