So, What do the peeps of RC do for a living?

I am settled into a nice career after some years of getting different tastes till I found what I love. A stint in the army, a taste of being an entrepreneur (Thank god I didnt go further down that road!), and years of firefighting (Both professionally and volunteer) have landed me a nice job with WSP as a Tower Inspector. To sum it up, I climb cell phone towers. I also dabble with the company in Surveying on days there are no towers to climb, so that's kind'a neat, something I'm enjoying learning how to do. It's nice to know you are on the right path, and enjoy what you do. Finally!

I know what most of you do, but figured we could have a thread about it, kind of see the demographic more.

My background is mostly in writing code (Software Engineering), but moving more and more into the management side of things. The role I'm going after currently has zero "writing code" as part of it.

Senior Software Engineer is what it would say on my business card if I had a business card. I enslave computers and make them do things for a living.

Been there done that, hated it, when back to coding. Good luck though, management is a great career move if you enjoy it.

I've been mostly in management for the last 4-5 years. Lately, I've had my hands back in a lot of code and it was fun for the short term, but management is where I really enjoy myself. Roadmaps, planning, personal development, all that kind of stuff is what I'd rather be doing. If I never see another obscure linker error in my life, I'm all good. :)

I am given a project, I write up a design saying "This is how it will be done"

then I pass it off to other people to code it, and I make sure they get their pieces done on time on budget.

I little bit of management and a little bit of code

You'd have a lot of explaining to do if you were a volunteer mine equipment operator

Medical Transcription. I enjoy it, although it's a field that seems to be in the decline due to outsourcing and speech recognition. About 2 months after I landed a permanent position (was term for 2 years), they announced they were not hiring any more nor were they filling positions as they were vacated. I just made it! I have been gaining more experience in filling in for the Team Lead position, so if something happens, at least I have more on my resume to help find another job.

I remember a time in high school selling my piss for $20 so my friends could pass drug tests their parents made them take after they got caught smoking weed. After word for around i had "the good stuff" (my piss)...a few more people in the same situation came to me looking for a squirt.

If i could of made a living at that, it woulda been awesome.

I've been a stay-at-home mom since we moved to AB last August. Kindergarten here in only 2, sometimes 3 days/week so working just didn't make sense.
My son will be in school full-time in September so I may consider working part-time, but my hubby goes away for 5.5 weeks every second month and we have a 4-year-old as well.

Service Advisor for a Honda Dealership... I have had many other jobs... worked for feds for 8 years.. hated it.. quit to work in a mall selling cell phones.. and now to what I'm doing now.. I'm a firm believer that if you don't like what your doing and not happy every day when you go to work.. quit and find something else .. life is too short!!!

International Marketing Manager for a big University. Doing Industrial Relations masters to be able to get higher in the food chain or look for other opportunities. Travel is getting old.

Also a silent partner in a local tapas restaurant. I usually help out there over the weekends when they have bigger crowds to serve.
