We've had our puppy for like 2 weeks now.

He was peeing blood a lot so we took him to the emerg. and he got put on meds for having a UTI and the meds are almost over but he's still doing it.

Sometimes he'll pee and it'll look normal, yet sometimes it just looks like pure blood. He doesn't seem to be in pain, yet sometimes he squats for a minute and does nothing.

Have any of you had this problem, what do you think it could be?

We have to wait another few days before we take him back into the vet.

Is the blood when your pup first starts peeing? or during the whole thing or the end??

I haven't noticed. Every once in a while he'll pee and have nothing but today when I came home he had little pee spots all over the living room, upstairs, and the kitchen and on his pee pad and every one of them had blood in it. It's just starting to upset me because my Mom's being so nonchalant about it and I'm doing all the worrying.

The vet told her that it could be a sign of cancer last time we had him in. Ugh.

If you watch and see when the blood is appearing it will make a big difference in what the likely diagnosis is... try to watch and see when you are peeing him - take him to the snow with a flash light and see if you can see when during the pee the blood is coming.

    :hugs:

I'll try checking tomorrow morning when I take him out or ask someone at home if they know. Hopefully he's alright.. he's still happy and playful and stuff. We shall see.

Do you have him on a good diet?

We have him on the diet his vet put him on...

He's on dry puppy food, a bowl in the morning and a bowl at supper.. and water during the day.

Is this diet to help with the UTI?

If this is the case, once hes better, Id suggest getting him off the vet food and onto something better. Orijen for example.

He's not on a diet to help with the UTI. Where can you get Orijen from? He still has little baby teeth as well.

Global pet foods is one place. They even sell a puppy food.

    http://www.orijen.ca/orijen/products/puppy.aspx

Plus its from a canadian company.

Be aware of feeding amounts too. With a better food you can feed less.

Another food to look at if you for whatever reason dont/cant get Orijen is Innova.

So we took him in... he has a high red blood cell count and the worst case scenario is that he might have a Shunt .. which means a very low life expectancy. I came home to my Mom crying. ugh.

He's going back in at 8am tomorrow for more testing. :(

One of our cats has the same symptoms you described in your original post and it was a UTI - as Scott suggested, we had to change her diet and she's been fine* ever since.

*fine except for the fact that she's annoying as fuck, cries randomly at 4am right by my ear, scratches the carpet, and likes to bring up hair balls as presents.

Every morning at 5am my cat duke cries at the top of our stairs. He'll just sit there and meeeeoooowwwwww. So every morning at 5am I get up, go down stairs and try and capture him so I can lock him in the basement. This usually fails as its dark and hes far to swift for me at that hour of the morning. So I end up tossing a treat down the stairs which he chases after. In doing so, I have enforced this behavior and now I think he meeeooowwwws at 5 am so I can throw him a treat. :pissed:

Normally I would sleep through the cries, but it wakes up the boy.

Against my Mom's will I just called the vet... We took him in at 8a and they put him to sleep for a while to take some tests. He's now awake and they're waiting for him to pee for urine and the Vet wouldn't tell me shit all. She said she'll call us later. It's now 2:13p.

Sounds like we go to the same vet. When I got my dog she had red itchy eyes and I took her to the vet and he told me she "might" have lupus and I kept saying it was allergies and we just need some eye drops for her. Needless to say, she doesn't have lupus and every spring her eyes get irritated. I'll keep my fingers crossed that everything works out just as well for you :happysad:

So, apparently my dog is smaller than average... he has crystals and we have to wait a week for the rest of the results. He's doing swell though, I came home to his tail waggin so fast his butt was moving. :D
