I'm heading to Halifax on the 3-4th of March..and for the first time thinking on sitting down at one of the tables.. I have played numerous home games.. and online a bit.. but am also a bit nervous about sitting in on a game where I don't know anyone...someone school me how things go in Halifax Casino for sitting in..

A lot of the people in the room have no lives, and play there pretty much open until close, so if you do anything that is some what out of the norm in terms of your play, they will probably call you on it, and make some kind of stupid stab at you. Just tell them they are homo's and that you will kick their ass and they will normally crawl under the table and cry. Just don't do that to the drug dealers, more than likely they have some form of weapon, which won't go over to well for you.

I think 1/2 is like $50 buyin if im not mistaken, with like $100 limit, but when I went that rule definately was not reinforced, people were sitting down with like $500-1000

Well, way to start him off with lots of wrong info.

You'll never find a limit game at CNS anymore. 1/2 No Limit is the most common game, and there is usually a 2/5 game as well.

Minimum buy in on 1/2 is 40, max is 200.

There's about a 50/50 mix of regulars to people just passing through. Overall its a good game, kinda loose at time. Be prepared to pay 10 to 12 dollars to see a flop regularly in a 1/2 game. If you have a question, just ask, the dealers are mostly all pretty cool. They'll guide you in the right direction. Just pay attention to the flow of the game and what everyones doing, and you won't have a problem.

Be careful not to string bet, if you're betting, get the whole bet over the line at once, or announce it before you do. If you try to drop a couple chips at a time, or try to cut chips down over the betting line, they'll make you keep it at the original amount.

Thats about all I can think of. There's a good chance i'll run into you there fucker.

Yeah, the days of limit poker are looooonnnngg gone. And the days of winning the odd 600 dollar pot are here. It's not common, but it's fun as hell when it happens.

Yeah, Kim.......that's Hold 'em bonus. And although it's kinda fun, it's not really that great of a game to play. It's just another table game, where there odds are in the casino's favour.

And she's right Chris, especially if it's gonna be a Friday or Saturday, you might wanna call ahead. If you call the poker room 496-6166, give them your first name and tell them what limit you wanna play, they'll put your name on the waiting list. They leave your name there for 2 hours. So when you get there, if there's no open seats, rather than be all the way at the bottom of the list, your name is pretty high, and you'll be able to get a seat way quicker than the guy that came in the same time as you and didn't call in.

If your playing 1/2 NL I highly recommend $200 to start.

You don't have to play your whole stack but with $100 you feel pushed right from the start. Lots of people raise $15 so that one call would be 1/6th of your stack.
