I've never really given them the time of day, but have been "paroozing" odd ones here and there lately. The selection both on iTunes and Spotify is overwhelming. Does anyone have any favourites or recomendations? i'm into listening about health and fitness, wine, some odd humour I listened to 3 hours of joe rogan with Dan B yesterday and really loved that
I listen to five or six hours of podcasts at work every day. Some of my favourites are The Daily, Up First, Planet Money, 99% invisible, Serial, Criminal, Freakonomics, The Indicator, Undisclosed... There are tons. I could go on. I'm more into news, economics, random knowledge, true crime, and ecommerce stuff for the most part though.
The Daily is great - short, sweet, great daily news analysis. We have it set up on our Alexa so we can just say, "Alexa, what's new?" and get that as our morning news feed.
The Daily, followed immediately by Up First, are the first two things I listen to once I get to work in the morning. Both are great.
I really like "How Did This Get Made?", where comedians critique/make fun of ridiculous movies. Also a fan of Joe Rogan.
I’ve been into this American life lately. “Human error in volatile situations” and “fiasco” are good. “129 cars” is also another great one. Dan Carlin’s hardcore history is also one of my favorites. Some are like 5-6 hours long but they’re excellent.
They play This American Life on NPR so I catch it on the weekends sometimes just driving around (just heard it which made me think of it).
Check out Tim Ferris as well, he can be a bit long winded but lots of interesting info. The Terry Crews interview from December was really good. Stown was a decent one off.
Any new recommendations? Odd facts/history, useless information, news, true crime, I'm interested in pretty much anything that's decent...
I’ve been into Dan Cummins’ Timesuck. I found him a little cringe at first but god damn if I can’t help but listen to them all.
Trying this one now. The random knowledge seems right up my alley, but so far, I kind of wish he was here, talking to me in person so I could kick him in the nutsack. I suspect it'll grow on me...
He grows on you. The first few I was like “this guy is fucking terrible” but now I’m a fan. Listening to the Donner Party episode right now as I sit in a parking lot waiting to go in for a meeting. I highly suggest the Caligula episode. He has two guest comedians on and i legit laughed out loud the entire time Also listened to a couple Astonishing Legends ones over the past few days. They’re a little Paranormal but the production quality is excellent and it sent me down a paranormal rabbit hole for a few weeks. Lore and Unexplained were awesome on the topics. Especially the Aleister Crowley episodes. Unexplained was centered in the UK but it was still really fucking good. I have a few Crime in Sports ones lined up too. They’re like 3 hours long each
Started listening to “Armchair Expert” with Dax Shepard. It’s basically him shooting the shit with his Hollywood buddies but pretty entertaining.
I'm still amazed at Dan Carlin's storytelling abilities... I don't understand how he pulls it off so well
In my current rotation (in addition the the ones previously mentioned): Gary Vaynerchuk The Big Story (Canadian news) Scavenger Life (eBay selling) E Commerce Momemtum (ecommerce/amazon/eBay) Pure Hustle Podcast (eBay/amazon) Reezy Resells (amazon/eBay)
Sawbones - A Dr and her husband talk about "misguided medical history." It's really interesting and funny. They pick a different ailment or "cure all" each show and go over its history. Risk! - admittedly the host drives me insane. I fast forward through his parts. But it's "real people telling stories they never thought they would share." The stories range from "piss yourself laughing" to "I need therapy after hearing this" I highly recommend it. Turn Me On - is a local podcast that has different guests each week and talks about different sexual topics. It's pretty cool and informative.
Small town murder and crime in sports are owning my life right now. Each ep is 2-2.5 hours long so unless I’m on the road it’s taking me a while to get through them. I cannot get enough of them. I don’t even like sports
Reviving this. What's on rotation for folks? I've been binging all of the Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend podcast lately. It seems like some of the good storytelling ones like Serial have burned out or maybe I'm missing something? Ah - I see there is a 3rd season of Slow Burn - first two seasons were great, especially given current Impeachment talks. First season is all about Watergate and second season is all about Bill Clinton / Monica Lewinsky and the impeachment process there. For some reason, the 3rd season is all about Tupac.
they’re so short by that I can easily listen to a whole one on my days commute, but yeah, it gets pretty heavy to listen to more than one in a row. Crime in Sports/ Small town murder are still my top ones. Religiously listen to each weekly episode and I’m caught up on all past eps. I cannot recommend them enough. Lore Unexplained Time suck Astonishing legends Nighttime podcast (the Valentine’s Day Halifax mall shooting series is good, it’s locally done) Casefile Mafia Dark side of
Dark Poutine - Canadian history/crime/etc Canadian True Crime I’ve also become a Timesucker Just subbed to Small Town Murder. I’ll check it out.
