Is the video audio really that bad?

Can anyone recommend a different camera app that allows for an external mic (also how can I complain to Google about the fact that they sold a phone with a crap mic with a camera app that doesn't support external mics?)

I just ordered this last night. I knew the audio was bad on video but intended to use an external mic and then later realized the camera app it comes with won't allow it. I see cinema 4k recommended and open camera on youtube.

Maybe some suggestions on bluetooth earbuds under 50 bucks would be great too. All the good ones I know of are more than 50 and I refuse to pay that much for something I lose 3-4 times a year.

I would just call and switch to the Galaxy 8 instead but I managed to get my carrier to send me the phone and let me keep my plan from 2012 and I'm afraid to call back and rock the boat lol.

It sucked but it's been fixed for a while now with a software update. Are you all up to date?

If it sounds all tinny, you need to update.

Mine wont arrive until next week. I've just been watching youtube videos of people complaining it still sucks. It's reassuring to hear it has improved.

What case did everyone here with one get? I've had a knock off otterbox on my last two phones and can't find one for the pixel 2. I'm considering picking up the name brand but I'm wondering if the silicone quality ever improved. I used to only get 6 months out of my branded otterbox defenders. I'm not sure if it's because of the industry I work in or what but they would just fall apart.

Don't believe any of the BS you read online. These phones got a bum rap on Reddit in the early days from a very small group of people. The phone produces amazing video! I'm using a Spigen case while waiting on a RhinoShield (https://rhinoshield.io/products/google-pixel-2-xl-bumper-case?variant=108299911169)

I'll check out those cases and if anyone knows of something even more heavy duty let me know.

I actually have a pixel 2 sitting in my office when I’m back after break. Curious to try it out.

Mine should be arriving somewhere around the 5th I think. I'm beyond excited since I will be upgrading from a Galaxy S5.

I love mine. The only complaint I have is I don't have a case for it yet and the phone may as well be coated in Teflon. God damn is it slippery!

Except it won't actually arrive until friday from amazon so I imagine I'll be checking one of those mall kiosks tomorrow before the phone arrives.

Phone came early and omg GrifterGrifter you weren't joking. It's so slippery.

I ordered an OtterBox defender for it. I'm awful with stuff and I'm not sure any other case would be enough. Plus it was cute and purple.

The mic seems just fine. A bit of feedback but nothing crazy. They definitively did fix the issue with the update.

So, I had full plans to stick my SIM in the Pixel 2 XL that arrived in my office and try it out as my daily phone, but the killer for me is that it won't support the Apple Watch. The Apple Watch was a recent gift I received from work and I've only had it a month, but I *really* like it, so it's not something I want to lose functionality from. At the same time I got access to the Pixel 2, I also had access to the iPhone X, so for now, I'm going with that. It has some nice features (the Face ID is actually pretty spectacular on its own), but the main reason being I keep full functionality with my watch.

When I get some time to play with the Pixel, what should I focus on to win me over?

It was a fun first day back at work - 3xPixel 2, iPhone X, iPhone 8, iPad Pro, and an iMac Pro all sitting in my office. Toys!

Wouldn't apple have to make an app for Android the same way that Android made an apple app for the android watches?

You're saying it's google responsibility to make their phones work with the Apple watch and not the other way around? According to my iPhone when I look at who made the android wear app it says google. I just figured that it would work the same way as that.

I mean you're hilarious thinking Apple would make anything compatible with anything non-Apple.

I realise now asking a question like this was futile. The question wasn't about the Apple watch and compatibility, it was about the Pixel 2.

    Love my Pixel 2xl.

FWIW, I mistakenly bought a case for a pixel 2. (spiegn)

That I have no need for. If anyone is interested, I'll get rid of it for $10.

I have this case (plus 3 other spiegn cases) and really like it. I have this (for my pixel 2 xl of course) on my phone now and like it.

The camera is great in it. Video is good too. The front facing Camera doesn't have image stabilisation, but It really doesn't matter to me

I've been looking for a Spigen tough armour for a regular pixel. Had to pick up an otterbox until I can find one.

Essential looks fantastic at face value. Here's the problem though.
    1) cases and screen protectors are virtually impossible to find.
2)its rated as one of the most unfixable phones ever made
    3) still lots of software bugs. They are quick to fix but more keep showing up almost as fast
    4) resale is dropping fast. You can find brand new (used ones) ones online for under 350

I was ready to get one but the first two things made me steer away.

Still loving this phone. I love it more with the otterbox defender on it. Hopefully it holds up and doesn't fall apart like my last otterbox until someone starts making otterbox knockoffs for this phone. Pretty bad when I've had better luck with the knockoffs.

Yep - plenty of broken Otterboxes, but the phone always stays protected.
