School me on them. The "best" ones I see all require a subscription and involve cloud storage with auto fill on all devices. All I'm looking for is an app that allows me to securely hold about 60 passwords so I can just grab my phone open the app, look up the account and see what my password is. Auto fill isn't vital.. Or is it? I don't mind paying but I'd rather a one time fee than a monthly sub. Last pass for example seems like big time overkill for what I want. Looking at Nordpass but taking other suggestions.
Cheddar - I've moved to Bitwarden - open source, does what you're looking for and more for free. I used to use 1Password and paid for it but they've since moved to subscription which is why I moved to Bitwarden. It's easy to have it sync across devices so I used it in Chrome on my desktop and have the app on my phone. https://bitwarden.com/
I'm hesitant to use a free program as I can't help but wonder what I'm giving up for it. Are my concerns unfounded?
I had the same concerns but did a ton of reading about how it was built as well as the security backing it up and have no concerns myself after doing a deeper dive. While I have a Computer Science degree and 20+ years in the computer/tech industry, I'm not a security expert but it checked all the boxes I was concerned about.
I've used a program called KeyPass forever, never had any issues. Not sure it would work on a phone though.
I've been using KeePass since 2008 and have 560 passwords in there at the moment. I haven't tried any others because I don't have any complaints.
I'm also using Bitwarden. No complaints at all. Integrates well with my phone and work pc through the chrome extension.
I am using Password Safe on my PC for ages. https://pwsafe.org/ There is a phone version on their website but I think it might use cloud storage
speaking of...don't use a piece of paper for your passwords https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/12/...gEaxWnMXKnICVdHp2VHkjc0leMmNWsmcTofb1ayRRB4P0
Same as Boots.... he got me on KeePass back in the day and have been using it with no complaints or issues. Current have just under 350 passwords stored. Use KeePassDroid on my phone and have a file synced between all my devices
Interesting. The description of keypads seems the be that it's highly functional if you don't mind and have the know how to do the work to get it to that point but it requires extensions and secondary apps. Troof to that?
Setup is pretty easy. Just need to sync the db file using something like Google Drive. KeePassDroid has the support built in. If you use a desktop pc you just install the drive sync util and that's it.
I'll try it today. I miss the days of getting help from you and you disappearing mid covo leaving me hanging.
