is it hard to get work with oil companies...what kind of requirements are they looking for to get started? or do they just want people who will work like hell and they will train?
if you can count to 5 and pass a piss test they will hire you I've worked with some fucking retards, they'll hire just about anyone
drilling is actually drill for the oil and serviceing is maintaining the current oil rigs? or am i wrong
a drilling rig makes the hole. that's it. it's very repetitive and boring. a service rig produces the hole, such as running different tubing, wireline, or other tools. any maintenance done on an oil or gas well is done with a service rig. i would never work on a drilling rig
yes you want to work on a drilling rig? all you need to know is the pipe turns to the right, and the scrub brush goes up and down. on a drilling rig you have to work two weeks on, one week off. service rig is almost always working, so you make a lot more money. -rory
unless you use reverse thread for some odd reason? but yeah, service way better like rory said more money, more traveling, mor work, less bitching, no cleaning and scrubbing
what are some courses and certs to have when you go out looking. First aid would be a definate. There is a course you can take when you get there for $250 someone told me, i think it is for the gasses. Any suggestions?
Just so you know man, I'm heading to Calgary at the end of July, hoping to get there for Aug 1. I'll be driving across canada if you wanna split the costs and drive up with me. I might have 1 or 2 others coming as well but the offer is there!
good luck man, looooooong fucking drive my buddy was on his way few weeks ago, flipped his full size truck with two harley's in the back, onto it's roof......fell alseep at the wheels take your fucking time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All you need is Safety Oriented First Aid, St Johns Ambulance, 101 Main St. Then get your h2s alive (hydrogen sulfide), from Survival Systems at 39 Mt Hope Ave then apply at every company in www.cossd.com book, you will get a job making minimum 50k
I used to work for Ski Louise when I lived out west. If you can get a professional job there its a great place to work and the pay is good for the professional jobs such as a millright or an electrician. Not only is the pay good, you get a free ski pass to eight hills in Alberta and BC, they give you a place to live that is dirt cheap (you will have roommates though...I had seven) and trust me...if you like to party at all you will have the time of your life. Highly recommended!
anybody here ever take the Basic Survival training to get offshore?? I am taking it and wondering how it was?
I have a friend who works on the rigs for Ensign. He has been down here since May collecting Ei and he has been telling me about working out there.I am now in the process of planning a temporary move. I may take the wife and kids up after a couple of months if I like it,if not I am banking as much cash as I can.
i am leaving for alberta tomorrow. gonna try and find a oil rig job if possible, if any of you guys have any contact info, PM me it will be helpful.
ill probably be heading out west once summer is done or sometime in august. i took a course in North Sydney called "Pre Employment Floorman (Roughneck) For Land and Offshore" it's a very good school the course was 1 month long, you'll learn prety much every you will need to start in the oil field. http://www.mdslimited.ca/ when you finish the course you get a deplomat for taking the course and you get around 11 tickets or what ever you call em saying you are certified for that thing "little plastic cards" IADC RIGPASS IADC Introductory Well Control (Well CAP) Hydrogen Sulfide Awareness (H2S + SCBA) WHMIS Basic Fire Safety Hoisting & Rigging Safety Fall Protection & Scaffolding Occupational Health & Safety Safety Oriented First Aid (Standard Level) Confined Space Entry Forklift Operator Safety
nah ya didn't your in for one hell of a shock when ya acually step on the floor.... take all the courses ya want, or read all the shit ya want, it don't matter..... you learn when ya work nobody needs a course to work out here, ALL you need is a H2S ticket and they'll hire ya those courses don't help shit, i took one and didn't need it anyways, pm if ya in edmonton and i can give ya contact info for my comapny we're looking for 3 new crews for end of september.....
fuck the rigs... worst job I've ever had -blasted by poison gas a bunch of times -had no life .. worked at leaset 28 days a month, minimum 12 hour days. -broke 3 fingers -almost ripped a finger off -and you think your boss is an asshole? i wanted to fight so many of my bosses i fucking hated those cock suckers. i still hate them to this day with a passion. good money tho if you dont mind never having a day off.
red92 etal...please continue talking about this...tell me of your schedule, rough idea of money etc...
My buddy works for Ensign (I think) and his schedule is something along the lines of 1 week on,one off,3 on and then another off and then it starst over again. He clears between 4-5000 per month. He made 40,000 between January and April this year, then he had May to August off.He came home and went on EI and look locally for a job and got roughly 1800 a months for unemployment. I am currently trying to get out there to work until next year.
