On one hand I'm fine with organ donation, but something about the government automatically opting me in doesn't sit right. Why should I have to opt out of something like that. just more of a principle thing with me

This. If you want to make use of our healthcare system then this is what it is. You have every right/opportunity to opt out if you feel against it.

    I think it’s great.

On the radio, the talk shows are flooded with people saying “the government can’t tell me what to do with my body!” and they’re being bullies and all this horse shit. Shut the fuck up. You have the right to opt out if you feel strongly about it. Ain’t nobody gonna be mad if you opt out, it’s your body and your right.

There’s also a conspiracy already that one guy brought up that’s its all part of a plan to sell our organs to China

The government isn’t telling anyone what to do with their bodies. All the change is doing is making the process easier for all the people who have been thinking of becoming donors, but have just been procrastinating on the paper work. I have a feeling it’s gonna be much easier to get people to opt out than to opt in.

again, it isn't the organ donation part I don't agree with. It's the why should I have to opt out of anything for me.

So, you don't have a problem with anything and you're angry at the world in general? *insert old man shaking his fist at the clouds gif*

Pretty much lol, but I just like the fact the provincial gov't is now forcing me into a program and it is up to me to withdraw. I already was an organ donor through the license, but I don't like where this is going. What will be the next thing you will automatically be enrolled in or have to do. Yeah I'm just being old and cranky :p

While I sometimes understand the, "what will they do next" type of worry that comes with these type of decisions, this decision stands on its own as a rationale, needed change, that it far outweighs worries of other changes you may not want to see happen.

I look at American gun control laws. It makes 100% sense to most of the population to ban assault rifles but groups like the NRA have effectively lobbied the "well, if you start there, what's next" argument for years. It isn't rational, but a tool used by lobbying groups to spread fear about (good) change.

America is stuck in the past on a lot of social issues due to the old 'but if you change this, then this could happen' mentality

I think that it is a great idea. I also believe that anyone who who opts out(by choice, not physical limitation), should also not be eligible to receive any form of organ donation.

I’m not so sure about that one. I’m sure there’s been more than one case where a non donor received an organ, then decided to become a donor afterwards

My Fiance raised a good point about this, this morning. What's going to happen if your hospitalized and you're "dying" do you think if there is a huge need for organs they won't do anything to help you and kind of just let you die? It obviously wouldn't be ethical but possible!

This is what I want you to do. Go home, and slap him in the head to knock some sense into him.

Presumed consent is something we already do....you have to specifically opt out of lifesaving measures with a DNR order on your medical....you don't have to give paramedics consent if you are involved in a life threatening accident and are found unconscious.

There IS a huge need for organs, yet lives are saved everyday...far more than those waiting on the organ donor list. This is simply a lack of understanding for the program, the hypocratic oath and how organ donation works.

Doctors aren't overriding family decisions regarding lifesupport in an effort to harvest organs from otherwise "saveable" lives lol
