What the fuck... If you don't like our fucking anthem, leave. This may come off as rude, or offensive... good.
I believe that I agree with you 100%. I went to school with a Jehovah's Witness. He didn't stand for the anthem because of the line referencing God. We knew why. We didn't care. He didn't care. Just because 1 of 30 people didn't agree with what it says, doesn't mean that schools should be any less patriotic. I don't believe in God, but I still believe in our country.
God forbid children stand up for less then two minutes a day and show that their greatful to be in a great country. That is just RUDE. If you don't want to stand for the anthem then get the hell out.
So what about the students that do want to sing the anthem? How does this accommodate them? This is complete and utter bullshit.
It doesn't, but I think those who do should band together and every morning, stand up at the same time and sing the anthem....or at least stand there for the 3:11. If the school said anything about it, I'd make the biggest stink you'd ever see.
I can see with the policy change around the Lord's Prayer and God Save the Queen etc because those do not reflect on all people. But there's something wrong when you ban the national anthem. Who the hell are you offending? The people who aren't proud to living in their own country? If some kid is uncomfortable singing the anthem, how about he keeps his mouth shout. I remember when not standing for the anthem was considered disrespectful.
Agree 100% Like it or not, Christmas is a Christian holiday. Canada is not a Christian country, although it started that way. I think some of the Political Correctness gets out of hand at Christmas, but it's a different issue than this anthem thing. Fuck off with the booty calls.
We stopped having our national anthem when I was in grade 10 because our school was so multicultural... I was in grade 10 like 5 years ago. It's stupid.
Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows CE; Smartphone; 176x220)) This is rediculous. When will it end?
Canada is a multicultrual country. Who cares where you originally come from or what your religious beliefs are. You're in Canada. It has a national anthem. When it plays, as long as you are a proud Canadian citizen, you stand your ass up and respect the country you live in and the people who fought to make it what it is.
This article pissed me off more than anything in at least the past month, and I was pretty pissed last night. I'd almost go as far as to write a letter to someone/petition at this point.
