buy less ram.... it wil fall in price in a few months.... you won't notice a diff. Also get a better MB, and look at a SATA hard drive
Cool! Suggestions on MB dude! I was gonna get a P4 but I heard theres somethin newer out! What it is I don't know though!
I would have to say don't waste the extra cash on the Athlon XP3000+.Just buy an Athlon XP2500+ and then OC it to 3200+ speeds. Here is what i would get if i were you. Athlon XP 2500+ - 114.75 Abit AN7-149.88 2x256 mb Infineon PC3200-65.88 x 2=131.76 Western Digital 160 gig 8mb cache SATA - 166.48 Sapphire Radeon 9600XT-221.88 Vantec Stealth 420 watt dual fan power supply-111.54 All these prices are quoted from www.grrenlyph.com and the store is located on Queen street in Halifax just around the corner from Sobeys.
LESS RAM, you are wasting money.... in 3 months it will be like $90 for 512mb Also look at the samsung SATA drives, the get good reviews and run quiet.
OK!! I've been lookin for the Samsung sata in a 160 gig but haven't found em anywheres! & fine I'll only get one stick of 512 but thats what I want! no sense waistin money on 256s when I'm just gonna turn around & buy the 512s later!! right??
Actually if the board that you buy supports "Dual Channel" than you are gonna want 2x256 sticks. Other wise it isn't gonna run in Dual Channel mode.Dual Channel will make it work a bit faster. I am not sure if it is really worth it but if I was spending a nice chunk of cash on a system I would likely consider it.
I found some better prices on a couple of your parts. processor http://www.greenlyph.com/product_info.php?products_id=397 Motherboard http://www.greenlyph.com/product_info.php?products_id=392 DVD burner http://www.greenlyph.com/product_info.php?cPath=25&products_id=372
I've been lookin at Greenlyphhe to! they have some really good deals! I'll be hittin them up I'm sure!! Thanks
Make sur ethat if you find any better deals at any other shops you get their prices on paper. If Greenlyph sells the exact same thing for more they will price match it.
http://www.pccanada.com this is where I ordered most of my stuff from, they're in Toronto, but their prices are better than most places around here. You have to pay for shipping, but you're only paying 7% tax instead of 15%, so you're gonna be savin' a chunk of money there. Good customer service too. I got a bad stick of ram from them. Sent it back, and in a few days had a brand new one at my door.
full spectrum is awesome for those cases that you rarely see just bought a 100% see through arylic case with flashing blue leds Awesome customer service and they will beat most prices in town (price comparison)
Sweet man! those! wasn't to sure about em though! I got the 21"aluminum Cheiftech Dragon! nice case to! but yours is bomb!
i dunno about you but i would Not Get a Western Digital ... i went thru 20+ in about a year i may be hard on the pc Maxtor are Realy good HD i got 3 Right now and not Prob with them they work great and i notice that the maxtor are faster data tranfer and stuff just better performance I Droped My 120 GB Hd on the floor and it broke it and i sen it to maxtor and they say they dont make the 120 and they can't send a 120 Gb and instead they send me a 250Gb as a replacement dam they got goot warranty maybe i should drop another on the floor
I think you got your story backwards.Western Digital is known for quality, wheress Maxtor is known for making junk.
maxtor is not junk im not going to argue but somthing must be wrong if you go thru 20+ Wd Hd in a Year i think i should know by now as i had not just 1 of those and say it works fine
The way I see it is if you went threw 20+ harddrives in one year (no matter what make and model) the problem is not likley to be the harddrive itself, more likely to be the operater of said harddrive.

my 2cents Edit: after I posted i saw how old this thread is, sorry Do yourself a favor and buy a good power supply. Do not get one that is included in the case they usually suck ass. Buy an enermax or antec or kingwin. Spend the money. SO many problems with newly built computers come down to cheap ass power supplies. Spend the most you can and get one with a lot of Amps on the 12 volt rail. Look for a sticker on the side of the box that says +12v, +5v, 3.3V etc. But make sure its one of the brands listed above as some less reputable manufacturers will fudge the numbers. Dont worry too much about wattage, something round 400 should do fine. Also go for the 1 stick of 512. dual channel only gives you a 2 to 5 % performance boost and if yur adding another stick l8r you can then take advantage of it and save some money for the moment. The DVD burner seems a bit high. Did you look at the lg. best bang for the buck in the business. Check the reviews they always score high. And yes go for a SATA drive with 8 mb cache. You will appreciate it when you load maps for games like doom3 and farcry, evenif you have to go a bit smaller. You can always add the same drive l8r and take advantage of the raid function. Really fast reads if you stripe the drives together. As for the leadtek tv tuner, im running the MSI TV@nywhere master and its great, you could save some quid there and I also dont think you'll need the hd cooler, just buy a case that will allow you to put a fan up front. Mine is a cheiftec and they have a place for an 80mil fan right in the front of the drive bay. Guess thats it, hope I didnt overstep my bounds with my first post. BTW MysteryBytes Rox great guy, great service and well worth the little extra you spend on somethings for their attitude and helpfulness. They are computer guys that sell not salesmen that sell computers.
