So Min wage in NS is currently $8.10 (7.60 if you have no experience for 1st 3 months)

going up to $8.60 April 1 and after 2 more increases will be $9.65 by October 2010

any way there are business owners complaining that this will destroy their business and they will longer be able to compete and will probably need to close

I say if they can't handle it they deserve to close

At this point I'd be happy with the standard three percent. It doesn't look good.

I was promised a raise of $0.95 when I started, and after receiving my first pay stub, I noticed I was already making the amount they promised me in June when my raise would go into affect.

Think I'll get a raise in June?

Min wage goes up. Inflation goes up. Person doesn't make anymore money then they did before. Keeps the stupid happy and the gov't in power. It's a win/win.

It's not minimum wage, they have a bit more flexibility in what they pay. Not sure how sometimes though..:kekeke:

My first job was 6.13$ an hr and I remember it was the highest paid wage out of my other friends starting out. They were at 5.85$. By the time we all finished out high school jobs and left for university I was at 9$..which was great. And they were at 6.80$. I guess I can't complain there, I was lucky.

5.85 was my min wage starting point as well. This is sad as soon minimum wage will be soon more than what other places are paying people. Wonder if that means they now work for min wage or will they increase to keep up with the times.

 They can't pay less than the minimum wage.... that's why it is called "minimum" wage.

It's sad because even though minimum wage will be getting a 19% increase to keep up with inflation, I highly doubt it most people who make above minimum wage will see the same increase, myself included.

People can't even afford to live off of minimum wage, so I'm glad to hear it's going up.

See thats the problem. Min. wage is going to be high for the 15-18yr olds working while going to school. Min. wage is not meant to raise a family on.
If your 30 and on min. wage you need to go back to school.

Yeah, because a family living on minumum wage can afford to stop working and drop tens of thousands on school. A family living on well above minimum wage probably can't even afford to do so.
Granted, it's best to go to school and establish yourself BEFORE starting a family, but this is reality, the REAL world. We don't live in the ideal.

If people don't like working for minimum wage, why do they? There are lots of jobs that pay better than minimum wage (even if it is only a dollar or two more /hour) that don't require any formal education beyond highschool. They might not be great jobs but no worse than minimum wage at the local cornerstore/gas station/coffee shop etc
