Is anyone actively investing in any Weed stocks?

Today is absolute insanity. skyrocketing to massive highs and 10 minutes later down 10-15% from opening prices. I have never ever seen volatility like that over an entire industry in that short period of time.

I bought Canopy Growth $CGC in the summer for 2.20 and just sold it for 15 bucks.

I purchased a whack of Organigram $OGI today on a dip at 3.40. hoping for positive volatility tomorrow.

Also got into Mettrum Health $MTM today for 5.75 on a dip.

With this kind of volatility going forward, there is serious money to be made on some short term plays.

    Anyone else have positions?

Asked my financial guy about getting into them and he said it was the wild west right now and he'd wait and let the dust settle before jumping into anything... hopefully I'm not missing the boat :o

Bought into $OGI at $1.50 a few months ago and have been adding to my position and trading around the volatility.... it's almost predictable. Missed the opportunity to sell at the high today because I was in course

You need some play money!. It will be too late when the dust settles.
Health Canada is issuing thousands of medical licenses monthly, can't go wrong with a low cost producer with a differentiator (like $OGI only organic producer)... and once Canada legalizes recreational use, these producers have the capacity waiting... then chaching

I'm bad for this too, so I started doing automatic cash transfers to my trading account just like an RRSP. Now I can add something new to the portfolio every few months.

Canopy was insane yesterday, along with ACB. So much so that trading was shut down for both a couple times.

I have a bunch of ACB, will likely try to unload and reload a few times if it remains volatile today.

LOTS of profit taking at the close yesterday. To be expected, long term holders have had multiple 100's% increase. I was up 140% as of yesterday on a MDM i bought about two weeks before the election. Back down to +75% today. It's not a buy and hold, but if someone wants to trade these in a TFSA you will have a lot of fun.

Long term growth look at Canopy, Aurora and Aphria (Aphria is the only firm in the space that is cash flow positive)

Short term risky play Marapharm and Emerald Health.

Marapharm has a pending production and sales licence approval with the CanadIan govt. Watch for that approval to give it a handsome boost.

They are overvalued for the time being. plus their only sales are through the mail which is limiting.

Yea they are really overvalued, but most are still a good long term buy, just need to be willing to ride it out for a bit. People will still be looking to jump in.

I wouldn't be buying at these levels, but at the same time I'm not in a rush to sell. MDM, which is my biggest holding, although based in BC doesn't really care about Canadian distribution. It's a nice to have but they have made big bets on Cali and Navd. I think anyone who is looking only at the Canadian retail/medical landscape is being a bit short sighted.

I also think there will be a lot of consolidation over the next few years.

That being said, if you were in early and made 500% don't be a dip, sell half or more of your position.

Hi billy bob - saw you posted today & hoping you see this. Asking for your help as you seem to be in the know at fort Mac. Wondering if you knew a couple heavy haul drivers that would be willing to have a short interview for my application on heavy haul course. They will not accept without. Just found out today about this & I'm very close to deadline. Would be very very grateful for any help or anyone else that reads this and would be willing?

Doubtful, it would mean having to stop beer and liquor marketing. Plus Snoop has been with Canopy for a few months now (really what started the run up in the stocks)

As a group most up again today. I think the profit taking has turned into short covering. We'll see over the next few days.

Don't take someone else's suggestion for investing if you will have a self directed account. Do your own research and watch your stocks daily or else you will just end up losing money.
For trading accounts I am with Questrade and TD - like both for different reasons. Together they provide me with most that I need.

If you are new to the game, you really shouldn't just jump into individual stock selections. Start first with a bank advisor and buy some mutual funds. Once you get a sense for how the markets work then move into direct trading.

All great advice thanks. Maybe I'm not as new as I came off as I have lurked here for awhile but finally started an account.

I have mutual funds with TD since 2007 so I have watched those thankfully grow gradually until this year where they mainly hovered.

Now I'd like to take matters into my own hands. I have been studying a bit on my own. I was on the fence of either using Questrade or Q trade.

Do you guys have any suggestions for reading material? Links or books, podcasts?
How do I find business performance for companies I'm interested in?

Send me the details for the Calgary advisor Duggan, if they are going to help me make some extra $$ , I don't care what he/she is packing.

I'm holding OGI.VN & OGI.WT.VN (WTF was I thinking?). I'm currently in the hole on this one, I figure I'll just wait it out for a couple years.

Horizons is launching the first medical marijuana Exchange Traded Fund next week. TSX:HMMJ

It would be a great investment if you thInk there is growth in the weed sector. It takes a lot of the risk out of individual investments.
