I was reading a pretty interresting article today about ppl using GM Synchromest MTF in alot of non GM vehicles like alot of ppl are using it in there Hondas,Acuras,DSM's etc.... and just love it and say it gives a noticable difference in smoothness of shift and notch free appose to using Honda MTF fluid in there hondas and so on for other different brands of other vehicles. Although it is very expensive they say it is worth it from the ppl who have used it. 1.- Is it safe to use GM Synchromest MTF on a none GM car ? 2.- Anybody else hear of this ? That would like to share there opinion ?. Thanks.
i have it in my civic.. it wasn't too expensive. $9 for a quart.. it works fine.. i didn't have any problems before.. so i didn't really notice a difference.. its a little bit smoother in cold weather.. but its not a big deal..
I have heard alot of good stuff as well on it, I used to run it in mt GTZ. I have been running Redline MTF in my Civic, I didn't notice much if anything with that, I may try the GM MTF this year, I grind 3rd like crazy at the track.
Yeah, I know, but I have read some good stuff about this fluid, may be worth a try. I need to change my fluid anyway and this stuff is way cheaper than Redline.. I don't really care about the grinding honestly, its always done it, I have a spare tranny if it blows up.
A lot of cars can survive on normal DexronIII ATF as well. Most E36's call for ATF in the mani boxes. I've used Amsoil for the last couple seasons in both of my cars tranny's. Pretty good stuff but a bit pricey.
I switched to Quaker State Super Synth but at $15 a quart it's not cheap. My WRX's tranny and rear diff took 5 quarts of oil! A lot of the subaru track guru's use redline fluid and report that it makes their syncros grind more than normal because it lacks the friction that regular oil has. They say to try Redline friction modifier (a must for LSD type differentials) to help with syncro issues.
DO not run schyro mesh or red mtl in honda trannies, = grinds, and causes internal damage. Redline is too thin for the honda gearboxes, stick with oem stuff.
What makes a Honda tranny different than others? I honestly don't know. I have been using Redline for a long time, I had the grind before, and still do, no change.
What makes them need special power steering fluid.. has something to do with conditioners in the fluid .. but why?
I dunno but it pisses me off... I got a small power steering leek in the accordian... I can only buy little itty bitty bottles of Honda Power Steering fluid at honda, yet right next to them you can buy 2L jugs of GM fluid
To me that indicates the people who own GM's have to refill their PS fluid more because of more leaks hehe. Either that, or Honda just wants to make more on their fluid
R&D Performance up in Truro sells Amsoil. They ship to halifax as well if you wanted them to. I've got their Number around here somewhere on a business card, I'll look for it tomorrow. Anybody else have their # handy?
In my last car (01 Z24) get this... it had a manual tranny, and came with Dexron ATF. Yeah. They all did. My car had issues with the tranny. Sounded to me like a release bearing... apparently almost everyone with this tranny had the same problem. GM's fix for it? Overfill with Syncromesh MTF. go figure.
