We moved into a new townhouse on monday and tonight i noticed my dog is covered in little black bugs. I use to see them alot back east, they are those little black fuckers that owuld get thru a screen window.

I dunno how to treat this, any time i touch her i get atleast 4-5 on my arm.

no, sounds like what we out east would call them "no see ums" they are like black flies but about 1/10 the size if that.
best bet is a good bath and comb her out repeat as nessacary.

if they are fleas then a flea bath is in order

do they "hop"? If so they are fleas. Sounds like fleas to me. She will need a flea bath. If you have carpets in your house they will nest there too so you will need to get something to get rid of them too.

i've been reading up on them and they say they will leave flea dirt that kinda looks like blood, i got one on my hand when i was checking her out and it's fleas. i had two little spots on my finger that looked like blood from the bug. Off to the vet to get some products.

The dog is probably really uncomfortable.

We always used advantage flea stuff, it works awesome, just a drab on their back of the neck and they were good to go. As far as the house, I am sure someone else can shed some light onto that, never done it.

i got the advantage dropper stuff. she said that since the fleas have only been around for a few days i shouldn't have to spray down the house. i put the drops on the dog and we will see what happens.

the thing that i am worried about is my family lands monday and our old neighbors are taking care of our dog, i do not want to send the dog there with fleas. and if it goes to a kennel that could be real trouble.

just read the package, it gets them under control in 1 day, and prevents the dog from getting them for 4 weeks per application.

i found a few in the house. the vet said if she just got them in the last few days that the few that got in the house should die off cause they will not jump on the dog to feed cause of the flea med. does that sound right? i was gonna buy spray to do the house but she convinced me not to.

yeah, it's gross. Me and the gf were trying to figure out where she may have gotten them. She hasn't been in contact with any animals except a cat that was walking along out fence on tuesday or wednesday. we are guessing that is where she got them.

You can pick up fleas from the grass too. People who don't have pets can have fleas in their house. Your dog didn't necessarily need to be near another animal that had fleas.

Finlay had an outbreak last fall and after 24 hours of Vet treatment they were MIA. If the dog has any bedding, I would suggest a wash in hot water and a good thorough vacuum of any carpets, rugs should help to put your mind at ease. Vet is right though, the fleas will leave the dog alone after Advantage/Revolution and if there were any in our house, they never made a reappearance. Just remember to keep up on the monthly treatment especially in Spring/Fall. Apparently that's the hot zone for the little buggers (no pun intended :kekeke:)

Is it possible that the fleas were in the townhouse when you moved in? I would do the spray thing anyway and clean bedding, etc as well.

apparently the people who lived here before the people i bought it from had pets, so it is a possibility.
