Seems they are on strike once a year for one thing or another
Ruining Xmas for a large number of people is not a great way to win our hearts
If they don't like their pay, find another job
Canada post sucks, convince me otherwise

I don't even know what their issues are to be honest.

I am sure they are crying for more money to do a job that literally anyone could do.
I wish people would just stop using them.

Rural carriers are paid by the size of their route and urban are paid hourly. When you compare the two with equal sized routes, the rural carriers make less per hour than the urban carriers. That's the heart of the dispute.

If you were that valuable you could threaten to quit and they would pay you more. The problem is there are a million other people qualified and willing to do the job. This shit drives me crazy

I hate unions. There is no need to have them anymore.
Makes things so much more complicated than it has to.

I agree and disagree. Wages need to increase as inflation and cost of living goes up. If left on their own, companies won't do it. Unions make sure that keeps happening. If there were some laws that required mandatory wage increases to match inflation or something, I'd be more anti union.

Be a valuable employee and you don't need to worry about inflation increases.
It's a glorified paper route. I had that job when I was 12.

I personally know several people who have amazing, over the top work ethic and the companies that have them are extremely lucky they do... and they still don't get treated fairly in terms of compensation. There are lots of people who are very valuable employees but who aren't in a position to bargain with their job who get stuck with the same stagnant wage for years.

As for the job being a glorified paper route, I wouldn't shit on anyone else's job. A lot of commerce is done via the postal service and mail carriers play a critical role in that business. You can talk shit on the job all you want but if they weren't doing it, we'd all be pretty pissed off. Look at how much of a mess a simple labour disruption causes.

Every package you get late, contact support. Tell them the package didn't make the guaranteed delivery time. If they don't offer, ask to be compensated for the inconvenience.

What an age we live in where someone from Newfoundland now expects on-time delivery. We truly live in the future!

I work for a union and well they are too scared to do anything for you these days anyway and are pretty much useless, but yet we pay them 70 bucks a month for something i guess...

actually i can opt out and have the dues to go charity, but with a certain pay system who knows if that would even happen, for all i know my total salary would be gone

I once had to confront one of my unionized employees about an issue but wasn't allowed to without having a union rep present. After the session the union rep said the employee needed to take the rest of the day off because they were too distraught... wtf.
Unions protect the bad and lazy workers. Before people lose their shit - I'm not saying all unionized staff are lazy.

Sounds like your union situation is giving you a bad taste. I wouldn’t paint them all with the same brush.

The urban and rural workers are asking for a 3.5% total hike.

This is what I found after a quick search, not sure if they are asking for anything else.

    • A 2.9-per-cent annual wage increase.
    • Double time pay for working a sixth or seventh day.
    • New wage advancements for temporary workers, based on working 1,000 hours in a fiscal year

The annual wage increase makes sense and better rights for temp workers. Double time for working a sixth or seventh day... not really on board with that one.

Not really, I disliked them prior to that. It's quite often you hear about unions wanting more and threatening to strike.
When a union has the power to hamper your business and in some cases put you out of business or affect the level of service we are entitled to get through our taxes (i.e. healthcare/teachers/etc), that is just plain selfish. When you take a job, you are expected to perform, do your job, and serve what you have agreed to. If you don't like it leave and find something better - don't take the business hostage.
I know my own worth and if I want more pay or better hours I go out there and find it. If someone doesn't want to do that or does and can't find/get anything better, well then maybe they're not worth as much as they think they are.
I agree, unions do good when there are working condition issues, but those are few and far between.

To get from Halifax to NL I would expect a few days. It is now pushing a week.

Don't confuse importance with skill. I acquired 80% of the required skills when I was 11 months old. When you are in a job with people lined up to get your position, you shouldn't be in a bargaining position, you should be focusing on finding a way to make yourself indispensable and then ask for better compensation. If the answer is no, obviously your not indispensable.
