Saw this article: https://www.vancouverisawesome.com/2018/06/01/king-of-donair-vancouver/ On the one hand, I get up to Vancouver a few times a year and will definitely seek out the Vancouver location once it's open. On the other, I like when regional stuff like this stays regional. It's been quite a while since I've had a donair!
Edmonton and Grand Prairie. According to their website. And I've heard nothing about a location in Calgary.
And now that I've read the article, may I rephraise... Why did they open in Grand prairie BEFORE Calgary. Oh the horror! (I literally got up 7 minutes ago and need coffee)
I'm shocked nobody came up with a cool name and opened up an east coast donair place out west already.
Even when I lived in Ontario, it was always one of those, "everyone talks about it, but it would be a treat type place, not an everyday spot". It's not guaranteed to make money. I know Kingston, ON had a location for a while, but it shut down because it couldn't make money. I actually can't expect the place in Vancouver to be viable - rent is insane in that city so the barrier to entry will be massive.
I don't know if the east coast population is big enough in Vancouver to support it. It will do very well in Edmonton/Calgary and GP
Ottawa does have one, some guy moved here from Cole harbor, one of the Toulany's. Its actually funny because his place is called centertown pizza and donair but his sign is a nova scotia flag and Halifax Donair no mention of the actual name haha
It was ridiculous on Saturday night, lined up out the door. Rob order a half dozen, I will admit that donairs are less tasty when sober. That being said, KOD nailed the donair here in Edmonton. Prep is the same as home and no lettuce or any of that bullshit people out here do elsewhere.
