I can't find a link online, but heard this on the radio this morning.. apparently, Nova Scotia is donating $1.5 million to the city of Vancouver to help with the Olympics.

    wtf?

Rodney jumps in and cancels the Halifax bid for the Commonwealth Games because it would cost NS tax payers too much (in his opinion), yet he's willing to throw money we don't have to Vancouver so they can become a better city in the long run?

Of course, one of the benefits is that Rodney and some of his staffers are guaranteed a block of hotel rooms and VIP status (which gives them VIP passes to events).. now, I'm all for looking at the Olympics as a networking and business event, but this all smells fishy to me..

Really? Because I when I try to come up with a list of people who would be a better premier than Rodney, I have a hard time restricting anyone from my list.

Everyone would seem like a great candidate, until they get in office.

Rodney never seemed like a good candidate, from day one. I have no idea how he got elected.

His approval ratings have got to be handy those of George W. Bush, eh?

Polls put him third, behind Darrel Dexter and the new Liberal leader..

    Rodney is the worst ever,

He still won't let anyone know where the millions went from the Commonweath games fund.

Election is coming up soon anyways.

I love how his "stimulus" package for the province seems to be to fix our roads. Yet another WTF?

Hard to say... Anything behind your numbers? The last poll I heard, probably about a week ago, Rodney was #3.

Nova Scotia is such a boys club. The corruption will never end in this province regardless of who gets elected.

No matter what happens, unless one of these guys makes big gains, we're going to be stuck in a minority where very little happens..

Your pretty negative... When I whipped through this this is what I focussed on.

"The sponsorship also bought the province the right to send local artists to the cultural Olympiad, events consisting of artistic performances and exhibitions. As well, a "Nova Scotia Day" will be held during the Games."

"The province now has the right to use the Olympic logo in promotional materials."

"We get all kinds of benefits to promote investment in business, in tourism, and all avenues of the Nova Scotia economy," Koffman said.

The sponsorship means hotel rooms have been set aside for the provincial government's delegations, and 200 Olympic event tickets and four VIP tickets for Nova Scotia's premier, Rodney MacDonald, have also been reserved.

The cost of airfare and the hotel rooms is not included.

The way things are I think it is a great time to promote all avenues of the NS economy considering the whole world will be in Van.

You can't really compare a 1.5 million dollar sponsorship than will help the city in the short/long run to a $1.7 BILLION dollar bid for the commonwealth games which could have quite possibly ruined the HRM.

As I said when I made the original post, I only heard what was said on the radio, which only mentioned the dollar figure and the fact that they would have perks.

The article on CBC's website is much more interesting and makes more sense.

    PS: Rodney still sucks.

I don't follow PEI politics all that much, so wouldn't have much to form an opinion of Ghiz on. I went to University with one of Pat Binns' son - that's about as much as I know about PEI politics.
