I was called for it so I had to go and tell them that I couldn't attend because I had school and work and they let me get away with it. Sometimes you have no choice and they make you anyways though.

I would think for the most part it would be boring unless you got a really interesting case.

Wanting to do jury duty is ridiculous, it can take over your life for a while. My neighbour had to do it recently, he was stuck in a hotel with no access to outside information, ie paper, tv. They where stuck in deliberation for several (20+) hours straight. It is not a fun time at all.

I guess it could be interesting, but being cut off from your family and freinds would suck.

Find out about the defendant, make it clear you are a racist towards their race, good chance you will be dismissed.

That's what someone suggested I do, and I mentioned that to my Dad because I asked him how I should get out of it and he freaked lol He said it would probably go on record blablahblah so I just told them about school and work and they let me off. You don't get paid hardly anything and like you said you can be isolated from your family/friends/outside world for the whole duration of the case. Not worth it to me!

I've been selected 3 times for State, once for Federal. I've only had to go to the courthouse once though, and I was sent home after 3 hours. My selection for Federal was postponed because I was in school, but it's been over a year now and I haven't been selected again. :ohnoes:

I can't stop laughing, thinking about half the people on here as a jury member.

I was summoned last year, however I got out of it because of school. I honestly wouldn't have minded doing it but it makes it hard when you are a full time student.

People actually chosen to be on a jury tend not to be the brightest of the bunch. Not saying theyre stupid.. just saying its unlikely they'll take the PhD, CEO, etc.

I'll get you actual stats later if you dont believe me.

Just because you are summoned doesn't mean you will be picked to sit on an actual jury. There are big groups of people summoned, and anyone can be summoned but then they weed it down asking you questions and selecting who they want to be on the jury.

I was picked because of they way I answered a question...It was a juvy case the kid was like 13... The defense asked general questions and I answered honestly so... It wasnt like a Cap Murder case or anything.

You have to consider the fact that there are plenty of cases that you would have no idea about because they are not in the media.

I would imagine they would want people at the same level. Also CEO's probably can't afford to be cut off while in deliberation

So, if you're a CEO, then you can expect a jury of CEO's?

    Unlikely.

Carlin said getting out of jury duty is easy. When they ask if you think you'd be a good juror, you reply "yes, because I can spot guilty people a mile away." Thank you, next.

I went to jury duty this morning. They called 500 names in role call.
300 people didn't bother to show up.

They told us the sheriffs office would be making stops to contact each person and possibly fine them.

I call bullshit, anyone know anyone ever fined for missing jury duty?

I don't know anyone thats ever had to go in for it. But if their name is called, and they don't show they should 100% be fined, and it should be a hefty one. Without a jury of your peers the who legal system fails.
