Not sure if this belongs here or not becuase it is "somewhat" automotive related.

In april my current insurance is expriring and if i call around for different companies and they ask me about my record what "can" i say that isn't lying to try and help me out for rates?

    i'm 25
my speeding tickets have cleared as of 3 years+ ago.

i had an accident but by then it will be 5+ years ago HOWEVER it is not on my drivers abstract here in n.s (it states i have a clean record) so when they ask me if i've had any infrations should i say yes or no??? since my record is "technically" clean.

what else can you say to get cheaper rates?

hmmm not sure. I know you don't currently have any but it does state 'have you HAD any'....

Maybe someone else can be of more assistance.

I'd just get a driver's abstract and they can take what they get.

There isn't any real tips, your broker really wont care themselves..they will put anything you want them too...shit happens when they sent it for approval, so if you dont tell them something and it comes up when the try to get approval shit happens..

The only thing I ever heard of people doing is not saying exactly what their car is..like I had a 88 Mazda 323 GT Turbo and when they asked what I drove I told them I had a 88 Mazda 323 and that was it...

About the only things you can do to lower your rates are to take the highest reasonable deductible. You get a big discount if you take $1-1.5k deductible. It sucks if you get smashed up but if its less than that are you really going to claim it anyway? You can also register the car as a pleasure vehicle not used for commuting which will get you a little discount, but you may end up regretting it if you get smucked up on your way to work. :)

Unfortunately theft is rediculously high on the RSX just like the Civic. I pay twice as much for theft on my 93 Civic as my wife does on her 97 Impreza. It sucks. :)

doesn't matter what you say .. they are just asking you before they do an abstract on you

the deductible is a good plan. Just decide how much you can afford to pay for repairs. For example, if you have a $1000 deductible, and you have $1500 damage to your car, is it worth claiming the accident through insurance and risk much higher rates? If you're gonna pay the $1500 anyway, just get a $1500 deductible and get a lower rate.

It's a tough decision, but well worth it if you can afford it.

you wont save much with higher deductibles, maybe 30-40$ a year on your policy going from a 500-1000 deductible.
And it's cheaper to tell em your commuting to and from work then pleasure use. It use to be the other way around, but most companies now rate pleasure users higher then commuting back and forth to work.
and never hide anything!!! worst thing you can do. if they dont see anything on the reports but you told them, they cant charge you for it. so tell em everything from the get go. and your accident will count for 6 years if its an aat fault, and 3 if its a not at fault

I don't think you're correct about the deductibles.
