No power here, running Wi-Fi and a few things off a battery bank. My bell cell service doesn’t seem to be working either

I guess this one wasn’t hype. My sister’s place in Truro is a mess - had a roof in mid repair that is a mess - water all through the house, main power ripped off the house. And their trailer out near Brule flipped.

Generator ran out of gas, ran up to the gas station to get gas and ice for the cooler, as I pulled into the garage the lights came on.

Two massive trees came down & took out a portion of our chain link fence. The dogs are enjoying running playing hide and seek in the spruce branches. Hopefully the guys to cut up and remove it will show up today. Tree guys are not cheap. I guess we could have hired anyone with a chainsaw but then we would be left with hauling and disposing of the of the brush and (useless soft) wood .

lost power Friday midnight, back on Saturday at 2pm, right when I fired up the generator, doesn't look like any damage in my neighborhood, other than a few shingles scattered around

Funny cause here in Alberta, when you get firewood it's always a mix of soft and hard. Through me for such a loop when I moved out. "Why are you burning this trash??".

Talking with my sister - she’s still without power and can’t find gas in Truro to run the generator. What a mess.

I know I get it because of the industry I work in but my Dad shakes his head when I say people burn pine and spruce all winter for heat  But there is no shortage of free fire wood, you just have to work for it.

I checked in on the folks on Saturday morning and they were lucky. No power loss or downed trees just some wind and rain up in the Valley.

My sister's husband runs a couple of small businesses in Truro - because he's got covid, my sister and my niece are running one of them right now - tons of people coming in completely lost because what little they had is gone. One guy in an electric wheelchair just stopped by begging to charge his chair so he can make it the rest of the way to visit his family. Crazy.

I doubt we would qualify. Luckily we didn't lose any food even though power was out from early Friday evening to Sunday around 5pm. Husband decided the day after a hurricane was the day to unbox and set up the generator we had sitting in the shed for a couple years. :muri:

Maybe someday we will finally get his brother come down from NB to install the generator panel so we don't have extension cords running down the hallways. Damn thing wasn't doing any good in the box.

I haven't paid for firewood in 6 years. Other than the 10 or 15$ fee to the province for my yearly privilege of taking my pick-up and chain saw into the woods with my boys and putting them to work lugging out the logs as I cut them up. Dead fall ftw.

I had my generator panel installed about a week before Fiona hit. Really hard to complain about that timing. We only lost power for 24 hours, but we didn't lose any food and we were able to run just about the entire house.

The second bonus was that we were able to run a bunch of stuff overnight and in the rain off the 110v outlet in my electric car. We ran our deep freeze, fridge, wifi, and a TV for all of those 24 hours and I only lost 15% charge. I doubt I'll use my generator much after this to be honest.

i charged some stuff and ran my wifi off the inverter in my truck which was super handy but yeah if you can somehow hook your EV up to your house you are golden. My neighbor has a 4xe wrangler and was going to see if there was a way.

Got my power back last evening. Still no Eastlink tv/internet. Figure that will be a while.

I cant get over how terrible mobile data is right now. It makes no sense. I have the same strength bars wise, but zero data. if I get to one spot in my office I can get things to work.
