went to put washer fluid in the wifes 05 honda accord and the release wont unlock the hood.
anyone know a way to get the hood open? without taking to a mechanic?
cable is still attached at the handle in the car, i can get a vise grip on it. gave it a tug to see if it would release but didnt.

    anyone?

You may be able to get at it from under the car with it up on ramps. Have to remove some plastic and see if you can reach up around the radiator and get a pair of pliers on the cable near the latch. Not the easiest solution in the world though. Guess it may have broke at or near the latch.....

The bumper cover comes off most honda's pretty easy too. That'd be another option.

*edit* Wait now.... you probably won't get the bumper cover off without the hood being open!

Try having someone push down on the hood as someone inside pulls the handle (that is if there is resistance on the handle, if it already pulls way too far then this won't work) - sometimes doing so can move the mechanism if stuck a bit in the opposite direction allowing things to free up a bit for the release cable to work.

Otherwise you generally get to look up in through the grill and see if you can see how it works...

There was this one time that I couldn't make it work.... and all I had with me was a claw hammer.....

It's a Honda, it doesn't get opened all that much ;)

Spray it with some WD-40, work the mechanism a bunch and clean the rust out (liberal with WD-40 a few times, and work it back and forth, the rust should drip out) then blast it with some white lithium grease, fluid film, rust check, or something else that will leave a film/stick/prevent it from rusting
