Yeah so my hd failed a month or so ago. I replaced it but there is still a bunch of info on there, pics and such, that I would like to get back. The error msg i got was on boot up, "Primary HD failure". I took it to one pc place who gave me 50/50 odds on a "level 1" attempt. Basically they plugged it in and tried to boot it up to eliminate me as the problem Anyway, that got nowhere. Des anyone have a comapny they suggest I should take it to next to try and save my pics? At some point you probably have to disassemble the drive. Is there any locals that go this far?
1) If you plan on recovering your data DON'T TAKE APART THE DRIVE!! 2) Send to a reputable company like drivesavers. 3) be prepared to spend a couple thousand on recovery. I've used recovery services several times over the years, each time it was a couple G's.
Yeah I knew it was not going to be cheap, thats why I'm kinda hanging on to it, hoping maybe someday the price will come down. Don't worry Cody, I wasn't going to open it, I've been told static electricity is enough to clean my disc. Where is Drivesavers? USA? thanks!
Fuck they're in Novato, CA. Thats like 5 mins from where I usually stay when I'm out there. I might have to swing by and try to sweet talk them into giving me a deal! I'm out there the 1st week of december.
