my friend has a 96 accord. he's thinking of putting an h22. will his f22 tranny bolt up to a h22 motor, or will he need the complete swap. i realize that the h22 tranny would be stronger, but i cant see him doing anything other than minor bolt ons.

#1: Yes, the F22 tranny will work with an h22a.
#2: It will work, however it will not work nearly as efficient as an H22 or H23 tranny. The H22a has the shortest gears (thus you get optimum use of the H22a's power plant), then comes the H23 becoming a bit longer, and then the F22 has the longest gears of the bunch.

The problem with using an F22 tranny on an h22a motor is due to the fact that the F22's gears are so long. Anyone that has used an F22 tranny on an h22a on the accord board has either swapped it out for an H22a tranny or still curses it. The gear ratios are just not friendly enough to be compatible with the way the H22a makes it power.

Basically the moral of the story is, It will bolt up and will work, but it will work like ass.
