We got rid of our front lawn and put in a minimum maintenance garden. I have always hated looking after grass. It’s a losing battle for basically nothing. My in-laws are staying at our cottage these days and my father-in-law keeps sending me photos of how nice the lawn is looking and All I can think about is how to replace it when we have time.
i used a weed killer on parts of the front lawn and it didn’t work that great. I definitely don’t use it in the fenced in area wheee my dog hangs out. The lawn One side of my driveway looks amazing, the other side looks like a dusty New Mexico desert and it annoys me
My neighbor has a new lawn and he's out there blasting it with chemicals constantly (his lawn connects to my currently weed infested lawn). There's a clear division where my shit grass meets his nice turf.. at least my lawn doesn't cause cancer.
I have a ride-on so I mow with flip-flops a lot...but I caught myself the other day going out with the whipper snipper in them and turned around before I did something dumb
When I was a kid I saw my neighbor pull his lawn mower over his foot and hack himself up pretty bad. That shit is on my mind every time I mow.
When I was a kid my old man came in holding his thumb to his hand, held on by a flap of skin. Asked my mom to get a couple band aids... Dumb move and reached down to unclog the side chute... Always remember that! Rarely use the side chute anymore myself but if I do I shut that thing down!
Same here. Steel toed boots. Or, in my case, I think I end up mowing a patch of grass that takes 5 minutes about 3 times a year. Always amazed when I pull the cord and the mower starts.
Push mowers are insane. I bought the cheapest push mower I could find new about 10 years ago...my dad has it now. He leaves it in the snow all winter, first pull after a prime and it starts every single year. It shoots a blast of rusty water out as it starts but it goes!
Had the same old push mower my entire childhood up until I moved out. Briggs and Stratton. Thing is probably in someone's shed somewhere still running!
My push mower is close to 13 years old. Besides loosing a wheel, I've never done a thing to it, and starts perfectly every time.
I’ve never bought a gas mower since I’ve had a lawn, I currently use a 40v lithium ryobi and I love it
WARNING: This lawn on top can expose you to chemicals which are known to the State of California to cause cancer.
Any off the shelf weed “chemicals” are just solutions with high concentrations iron. Dept of environment pulled the high test stuff years ago.
this is not meant to be sarcastic at all. The proposition 65 that you just quoted is on probably 95% of the things you buy and probably 99% of the things used in the construction of your house other than the lumber. It’s heavily over used.
x2 on the ryobi 40v lithium, works awesome, and Scott can attest to the fact that I very much neglect my lawn and mow it when it's a foot tall lol
Same here ours had no muffler and the plug wire would short out on the steel handle and Dad just thought I was lying and and told use to just keep going so I just kept going getting tazzered and kept pushing that old SOB. When you shut it off, 9 times out of 10 it would back fire so loud it sounded like a shotgun and I am sure that motor is still running. I have a ride on mower now with a rear bagger and I mowed it on Tuesday I wore this with my wife beater my carhart overalls and a keystone light in the drink holder.
Ours shorted out too. Not that often, so few and far between that it scared the bejesus out of me every time I got a shock.
I’ll snag a photo of my lawn later today. No rain all summer, brown as can be - I haven’t mowed since March maybe?
love cutting the grass crew signing in. ive had the same gas mower for 8 years, and before that it was already 6 or 7 years old. works flawlessly. My old man had the blade on backwards when he owned it....yeah. haha someday i'll have a property with a big enough lawn worth having a ride on for. also this season was the fastest growing grass stint in a long time, once a week wasn't enough, almost every 5 days i had to cut it.
My front lawn Molly out in the far corner I miss my birch trees but they had to come down or they were going to fall and cause some major damage. There is going to be a wedding here next spring so I have been feeding and fertilizing for the first time so I hope it is looking good I am going to trim the bottom of the tree
From a walk today. This is how people in my neighborhood get a green lawn (note the cactus is fake as well).
smart actually. i dont' totally hate the astro turf the cactus is awesome. i want abig fake cactus in my yard now haha
I have to say, that one didn’t look too bad compared to others. Astro turf degrades over time. But the look on that one with the cactus and palm trees is actually pretty fun. Palm trees here in Seattle make me kind of laugh - so stunted and small compared to what I see down in California.
