OK, I really need (want) a 3rd flash. I have a 580EXII and 430EXII now. The cheapest I can find for an SB-24 on eBay is about $130 delivered for an old flash that could die at anytime. A new 430 is $400 with tax so that is out, but a Nikon SB600 is about $300. So for roughly twice the price of an old SB-24 shouldn't I get the SB-600 even though I shoot canon so all the extra features are worthless to me? Or should I pay $100 for the Canon?? Arrrrrrr

2nd question, I use pocket wizards now. If I get either the SB-24 or 600 do I really need to buy a 4th PW, or can I take one off of my my 430 for the Nikon flash and use the 580 to set off the 430, or would I be losing something? I would like to order today so any quick thoughts would be appreciated, thanks.

So you're going to use a PW to fire the 580, and then hope the 580 sets off the 430 at the same time?

No matter how you look at it, I think you're also going to need another transceiver.

I know you are looking for advice, but I question something. If you get a 3rd flash that is a different brand, is it possible that the light from that flash would be slightly different (color/temp wise) than your previous flashes?

You'd be fine......people mix flash brands all the time.

Ahh the plot thickens. I just realized the 430EXII will not work with a PW without an adapter cable, I had to pay $60 for that for my current one so that flash is off the table. Does the SB600 work with a PW nativily or will I still be in the same boat, I know the SB-24 is no problem....

Nevermind I found my answer, no sync port, so I'm screwed basically. LOL

The Maternity shoot for my sister is Saturday, the new stuff won't be here in time but there are at least 8 pregnant employees or spouses right now at my company so getting prepared in case they all see my genius, :kekeke:

Oh and my wife is trying to knit a peanut baby wrap, but she has never knitted before so I'm giving her a hard time.

Personally I wouldn't bother with strobes for newborns....any reason why you're going that route?

I'm not particularly Tanya, although I do feel more comfortable with strobes over natural light in general (inside), they are more predictable and repeatable IMHO and less skill involved (you can pay me our arranged complement fee when no one is looking) Also my home studio is quite dark so any shooting taking place there will require strobes or at least a mix of the two light sources. I just want 3 strobes to be prepared and it have a backup as usually I won't use all three at once. I've been on a background buying spree the past week though, and don't ask how much my wife spent in Fabricville and Homesense on props, etc...

Set up in the living room. One big ass window and like 10square feet is all you need!

I mean, obviosly do whatever you're most comfortable with....but try it at least. I think it's much more flattering to newborns.

Has your wife been stalking my site again? LOL
