Remember the good old days when politicians said “vote for me” instead of “don’t vote for him/her”

imagine a job interview when you spent an hour telling the employer why all the other people are bad choices. That would be wicked fun.

Mike posted a factual tweet about someone being a douche and luckily will not have anyone voting them into parliament.

Mailed my vote in last night. My thought process:

    - At a federal level, Trudeau’s lost my vote. Too many promises not followed through on. Tainted by too much scandal. O’Toole just doesn’t seem ready but more than that, the CPC is a shambles and is pandering too much to the far right nut job contingent. Overall, I can’t vote for the CPC right now. Singh actually seems to be the best federal leader right now, which isn’t saying much, but he’s literate and not covered in scandal. The NDP won’t win but should have a voice in our government.

    - Locally, I still vote in Halifax West as it was my last permanent residence in Canada. Last election, I still had hesitations about Trudeau but trusted Geoff Regan - had met him personally and he’d always impressed me. He’s retired, and the new Liberal candidate looks slimy. Thanks Joe Thornton for pointing out the Metledge stuff. I’m not voting CPC so did some research on the NDP candidate. The first thing in his profile talks about being pro-union which almost lost my vote. Fuck unions in this day and age… but I don’t align 100% with any of the parties and there’s nothing else horrendously bad about NDP policy right now.

    All to say, voted NDP.

The far right pandering is Maxime Bernier and the PPC bud. I don't see any of it coming from the CPC.

But yeah, anyone but Trudeau. Singh's release of his costing didn't move the needle for me at all. its still a pie in the sky platform and if he won and managed to start process to get laws passed, we will just see a mass Exodus of businesses in canada and huge job loss and loss of exports when countries like China decide to buy Brazilian grain instead.

Local MP's are less and less relevant as the pressure to vote along party lines is so ridiculous. I wish it wasn't leaning that way. But 2 months ago liberals voted 145 to 1 against fixing housing and Inflation.

Perhaps it depends on your stance on what far right entails but anti-gay racism still litters the CPC and as much as they’ve tried to backtrack on things and show a more nuanced approach, in general the CPC leadership doesn’t listen to science which is a scary proposition. Maxime Bernier is far-far-right.

There is zero chance the NDP win but as I said, they represent a lot of Canadian’s values. I’m voting for them as much to give a boost to that as I am to let the CPC/Liberals know they’re losing voter trust.

The Centerists from the CPC and Liberal parties should form a new party together and let’s abandon the old way of right vs left.

Hope that is a possibility. It's more likely that the now vastly outnumbered old reform/alliance conservatives fracture off in the next decade because the majority of the party has moved further left.

As much as it pains me to say this... I'm glad you voted for NDP. I did NOT see that coming. While it's not the right way to vote, it's not for liberals so there's that.

    Respect for voting.

I don’t know how many times I’ve posted both that I’m not a card carrying Liberal, nor am I a Trudeau fan boi. It’s something both you and KMD seem to keep repeating any time something gets posted negative about the CPC.

So color yourself surprised all you want - maybe try actually listening in the future. And burn your CPC membership card and think for yourself.

Just to be clear, GrifterGrifter , this is how I see the difference in how we approach the election:

    1. see my post for my thought process above. I very well could have ended up voting CPC and have in the past.

    2. how I see your thought process: “I’m a Conservative. Here you go, O’Toole. Here’s my vote.”

You can tell me all about how much you hate Trudeau, all the memes you’ve posted, etc etc etc - but at the end of the day, you’re a card carrying Conservative and an election only means one thing for you - vote CPC. Small minded, I have zero respect for it.

Easiest way to describe it is that you or I would vote for whoever you liked best. GrifterGrifter et al would vote for whoever is running under the conservative banner.

You had me until the fuck unions part (Even though I think my union is as useful as tits on a bull) lol. I’m in the same riding and no way in hell was Diab-Metlidge getting my vote. Went to the advance poll yesterday and had a chuckle at the Christian Heritage Party candidate. That was a new one for me

 Do you think we are not smart enough to make a choice for who WE think will be the best choice for OUR riding in Ottawa and just put an X by the CPC party box?
You do the exact same thing because of where your political views fall in :canada: there are more choices for you . Where my views are on the political spectrum fall, there are not a lot of parties to choose from here in Canada. I have taken that test almost every election and I fall in the the same general spot every time. :shrug2:

however, I am reading that one now. LOLOL

    Christian Heritage party platform
Let's do some cut and paste of he ones tat made me laugh hard as I read them and they lived up the stereotypes.

    ABORTION
    1. The CHP is the only federal party with a policy of protecting all innocent human life from conception.
    2. Abortion is NOT a Charter-protected right
    3. Many recent studies have shown a link between abortion and breast cancer
    4. Abortion should be defunded, not defended

    CBC
    1. CBC costs taxpayers $1.6 billion every year
    2. CBC has pushed and continues to push abortion, gender confusion and assisted suicide
    3. CBC must be defunded / privatized
    CHILDCARE
    1. Parents are the best and primary caregivers for their own children
    2. Taxpayer-funded childcare is no substitute
    3. Children do best in homes with both a mother and a father
I stopped reading there and just skimmed and it was all kinds of alt right crazy shit. At one point they defended CO2 as a natural beneficial gas. That was like #7 I stopped at. There are 44 of these things
These guys make the PPC fall on the left
