also in on this crew. I have no idea how I got to do what I do and I expect the real *job title* to come kick me out of his office any day now.

The only thing I find weird about my job title is that it has "Engineer" in it. It's illegal in Canada for me to call myself an Engineer (I don't have an Engineering degree) but it's common practice here in the US.

I should be locked up I guess, I've been calling/called myself a software engineer forever :D

I do remember the debates at uni though about it.

I am officially a Senior Software Engineering Manager, as of a few days ago. Guess in canada I will call myself a guy who manages a group of programmers.

Or just add technician to your title. Seems that's been a thing for a few years now. :shrug2:

I don't think that word fits into anything I am responsible for, but yeah, I get your point.

To most non-techies I am just a guy who can fix computers lol

The highest position I can achieve in my current career path has "scientist" in the title. My job has nothing to do with any kind of science.

It is actually illegal in Canada to call yourself an Engineer or have it in your title. I went through this when a startup I was working for in Ottawa got bought out by a US company. We were all initially going to have titles like "Software Engineer" but the lawyers said, nope, and they had to make Canadian equivalents - "Software Developer", for instance.

I doubt that it is ever enforced, though. I know plenty of people in Canada who aren't Engineers with Engineer in their title, especially in software.

I think the highest position I can achieve has Chief in the title and I don't have any native background at all.

Lots of talk that he’s going to prorogue parliament. Which is something he heavily criticized Harper for, and vowed he would never do. Can’t wait for the announcement.

The 5000 pages the liberals are turning over about the WE dealings were supposed to be delivered tomorrow. But if Trudeau prorogued, they get sealed and everything gets shut down. Conservatives just drafted a bill that would get voted on to try to prevent it.
This is like a god damned soap opera!!!

I once had a title of Chief Software Architect, it felt really odd saying it.

UNB offers a Bachelors of Software Engineering now, does that mean they are legit "engineers", just curious. I have never really looked into any of this.

I wonder if the degree is considered actual Engineering? Do they get a ring?

Or maybe they’ve changed the law since then. It was 20+ years ago. Jesus, that makes me feel old.

Also, we essentially have the same job title. Well, for now. I have a new boss in the last year who refers to my role as “Group Engingeering Manager”. I’m also working on a promotion to Director... a return to Director as that was my role at the previous 2 companies I was at.

We get a confidence vote in October. He killed the WE investigation, the day before the documents were to be released. Says it's to keep the government focused on the future. But knowing a confidence vote is coming, seems a good time to shut up a scandal..... What a rat.

Yeah, I thought I was getting the "Director" title this promotion, but I guess that's likely next year now. I literally sit in and help to make decisions in the director meetings now. But I guess it's company policy to not jump two levels. All good though.

Bring on the election. I don’t play the non transparency game, it’s a real slippery slope. If he wants to move the country forward, release the documents that prove he’s not corrupt. There’s one reason to squash this and innocence isn’t it.

That explains why it was shut down today but they may still get some of the documents. My fingers are crosses

I agree it's a weird time. But he has a minority and is acting like it's a majority. His actions come across as shady to me. Seems like he is dodging parliament in an effort to not be held accountable. Even has the lack of spine to tell it like it is, and instead acting like he's doing it to help Canadians. He works for Canadians. He has no right to run the country into the ground like he has and not answer our questions. If he was answering our questions, and not hiding things or not giving pre-written statements over and over and presenting the evidence to back things up? I'd be still be bitching, but not to the extent I am.

I'd rather pay for an election than see him dole out money to whatever he pleases and act like he did nothing wrong.

Dude has been caught 3 times. 3 strikes, you're out.
