So - I had a voicemail message on my work number (?) from the police apparently, telling me to call them back as they've had a driving complaint.

What is that? And why my work number? Would they even have that on file? Is this a scam?

Call them back and see what they have to say. Likely some kind of scam. Could be entertaining though.

The phone number registers with the police on google. Weird... I have no idea what this is about. Or why they would call me at my work number.

I don't know how they would have your work number but I filed a driving complaint against someone once when they almost forced me off the road. All I had was the make and model of their car and a license plate number. When I called the police to report it they said there wasn't anything they could do as far as writing a traffic ticket since they didn't witness it but they could send the person a letter stating that a complaint had been filed against them and give the details.

Me and some neighbours filed a complaint against some kid driving their parents' car in our old neighbourhood who was flying around the street and almost hit a moving truck he was going so fast. The cops went to the kid's house and talked to his parents.

This happened to my coworker....for talking on a cell...
Police called her, had her come to the station, and then gave her a ticket

Did the police actually witness her doing it? If not, I don't know that a ticket would stick if challenged.

My friend lost his license after passing 3 cars in a row, and someone filing a complaint against him. The police were nowhere near him, and only received the complaint the next day. He fought it in court and lost, and ended up with a ticket for careless and imprudent driving, which made him lose enough points to lose his license for a year. Bullshit.

Not lately... I mean sometimes I pass people on the inside in the mornings when they stay in the passing lane for forever when they could merge into the right lane.

    Wow!

I filed my complaint many, many years ago  Maybe the rules have changed and they can write them a ticket. It's kind of scary that they can without witnessing it though.

Nope...they went on the callers word...when she went into the station the cop said "yup, you match"....and then gave her a ticket...
It's fucked, and she is taking it to court to fight it

I didn't even know you could report someone's license plate. And have them do anything.

Tell me about it, what could stop me from calling in any random plate number I see and say they were being a douche? Makes no sense!

I recieved a ticket for a driving complaint last year. No Cops anywhere. Just called me 6 weeks after it happened.

When I went to court to challenge I had three witnesses that showed up. So 3 vs my word. I was fucked and did nothing wrong.

The police do not have to witness it to issue a ticket if they get a complaint.

If I witness someone talking on a cell phone, I can call it into the police, they will ask if I am willing to go to court to give testimony. If I say yes...they may write the ticket....If I say no they will not.

Having said that it is rare that they issue tickets based on a complaint from a caller.

On the highway... I always wait until they have multiple chances to merge themselves though. I don't just fly around them and not give them a chance.

PS: Only on two lane highways. I don't mean the shoulder.

I never drive over 120 if that's what you mean...

I mean - sometime in the morning I drive 120 when I'm between cars in the passing lane driving that speed. Otherwise I feel like I'm holding people up. When there's people in the normal lane I mean. Otherwise I'd be over there.

I drive 120 everyday to and from work on the 103. If someone wants to call me in, take the time out of their fun filled lives to go to court over it, power to them.

As I said - I drive that speed when the cars around me in rush hour are. I find it a better alternative than driving slower and have them all up in my space. How is that offending anyone?

I guess I'll just have to stick to the speed limit then, and just report anyone who's a prick about it. I'll probably be reporting like 10 people a day...

It just makes me nervous is all. Not "going with the flow" (in the mornings anyway). Most people in the "slow" lane are doing like 90.
