The topic of social media being crap has come up before. Not looking to debate that really. I was ready to delete Facebook about 6 months ago but then some groups I got involved in use Facebook groups for all communications. I can’t seem to find a way to get rid of my news feed but keep Groups. Google has failed me - thought maybe someone here might know how?
Do what I did... it takes some time but it's worth it... go into every friend and 'unfollow' them ... your feed will become only the groups you belong to.
Yeah I don't do this to the same extreme, but I unfollowed the majority. Not a total dick, I still follow Steve for example.
When it comes to vehicles it's not that complicated...I am non-committal. We'll have our fun and then it has to go...
I thought you were just going to say to use Google Plus, that way you had no friends to delete and no ads because people wouldn’t pay to advertise on a platform nobody used.
Deleted Twitter and Instagram off my phone now as well (had already deleted FB) - getting the social media break started at least.
I don't mind instagram. Still lots of idiots posting nonsense in their stories but you can mute those people.
Agreed that it’s better but a lot of getting rid of social media for me is to stop looking at people only posting their “best life” which leads to depression - a bunch of studies on this. Twitter is a different beast - I’m just going anti social media for a while, see where it goes.
I don't know how some people do it with thousands or even hundreds of friends it's crazy. I know Boots will find this strange but I think right now I have under 50 friends on FB most of them are my senior family and relatives with the algorithms of quilting, fabric and sewing ads running around in my head I totally get what boots is talking about by them programming you. Now all I want to do is go to fabricland and buy wool and cotton, my wife even caught me eyeing up her sewing machine last night.
yup thats very true. when instagram first came out it was less curated and more candid. Arguably the essence of what made it great. of course its not like that anymore but it can be irritating seeing those curated stories and posts. And ihave to agree about Facebook. its only the marketplace and the specialist groups that i belong to that make it worth while. but i do like the suggestion of unfollowing everyone, because you certainly can't just unfriend them all or you'd be finished haha
On top of unfollowing everyone, I’ve bookmarked the link to the specific groups I want to keep up on. It’s a welcome change. Though now I have to figure out what to fill the time with!
2 weeks in. I figured I’d have some FOMO but honestly… no. Between FB, Twitter, and Instagram, I do think about putting Instagram back on my phone - partly because a lot of the groups my kids are involved in share photos that way.
Not quite. Bit of network talk for some folks here that might understand it; it would appear that they automated a change that nulled their BGP routing tables. And they don't have (working?) out of band management. Knowing the logistics to get all of that working again, I think this is hilarious. Let it burn.
ATTENTION PEOPLE OF REALITY CHECK, THERE IS A STRAY CAT ON MY STREET. IF THIS IS YOUR CAT PLEASE RESCUE IT. ORDER YOUR CHINESE FOOD AND CHARGE YOUR IPHONES AND IPADS. STAY SAFE.
A nice little writeup by Facebook engineering: https://engineering.fb.com/2021/10/05/networking-traffic/outage-details/
I remember when ICQ wouldn't work. Their engineers didn't elaborate why. I wish Facebook and insta would go away. And tiktok too. But not snapchat or Twitter. That's where the free boobs are
Agreed. Read an article today about the attitude starting to shift towards treating facebook more like a harmful substance that should be more tightly controlled. I'm liking them being under the lens of scrutiny.. its exposing how shameful they are in the name of profits.
What? Train your tiktok algorithm! Mine is nothing but tits and ass lol. To the point I can't even get it to stop.
