That's what I don't get. Don't bitch and moan, just stay home for a good two weeks only going out when you need to. The longer everyone takes to do that, the longer this goes on.

I feel like the press conferences with McNeil and Strang have been very clear up to now but this state of emergency is very vague. I would have expected all non essential business to be shuttered but they left a gap in the door with the 5 person and social distancing remarks. I fall under the 5 person limit, we can keep our distance easy enough, but I look at a dealership setting with 40-50 employees. What are they going to do?

On a positive note, I haven’t seen RC this busy in years. Maybe some others will come back.

I would assume they want to leave it open so responsible business owners can keep things going rather than just ordering everything closed.. who knows though

Dealerships are doing voluntary layoffs. I’d say after today they are going to be not so voluntary.

PirateStevePirateSteve arent auto shops essential service? We supply the people who supply auto shops, so we are allowed to work if they shut all essential businesses, not to mention we also deal directly with first responder fleet units. I may have to lay off a guy but as of right now it’s business as usual, which is best case scenario.

we are social distancing/disinfecting constantly and anyone who comes near my office gets a mean stink eye

The SOE wasn't imposed because things have gotten worse, it was so they could turn their requests into enforceable orders so things don't get worse. 5 people allows an average family to go for a walk but prevents a hockey game in a playground, which is what was happening daily all over the city.

My understanding is that businesses can continue to operate but only if they can maintain the social distancing required

Some people, such as independent trades people can't work from home as easily as you. It's very difficult to just pack up their stuff and walk away even though they know they are supposed to. I'm not making excuses for them but money makes people do crazy things, lack of money makes them do even crazier things and if they don't understand the ramifications or don't realize that it's not just themself that they are putting at risk. I spoke to one guy last week who said that he smoked and drank enough that no virus could survive in him, and he believed it, because to him as far as he understands/wants to believe, this is just a bad flu and he's had them before.

I would say there will be a closure of all non essential businesses by mid week, if that.

As for essential services, it is laid out pretty clearly in The Essential Health and Community Services Act. There is a section that would cover some automotive repair, limiting harm or damage to or deterioration of property required for the performance of an essential service. I'm sure this is meant to keep up of health buildings or first responder vehicles.

Not sure how it relates to fixing broken BMW's unless the driver is a doctor or other. I guess that will be my defence if HRP kicks in the door and start handing out fines.

It's for anyone. If your pipes burst you need a plumber. So they make allowances for that. Same I believe as car repair.

Nova Scotia is giving till the end of August, same goes for expired Driver's Licenses. But Aaron, im not sure when your plate expired, the extension says it applies to plates that expire in March, April, May.

Suppose you can still renew it online.

Be interesting to see how the numbers look today in NS. I'd expect a little bump here from all the March break travelers returning home.

I think you're going to see an initial spike as testing in NS has been accelerated as well.

I read something saying we’re a 10 day lag period behind. So next week we should have higher numbers, unfortunately. Hopefully not many as the social distancing starts to reap its rewards

I feel like we've been really good taking the advice of the medical professionals but it's not like I've been out looking for people not following it

We're going to need to see results or I'm worried that people will start to go stir crazy and decide that these short terms changes aren't worth it and start going out

I think NB is opening up testing to other people other than travelers or contacts of travelers...I expect our numbers will rise. Too many people still out running around, saw it first hand yesterday on the quick specific trip I made for my parents.

A co-worker was forced to go to Halifax yesterday to pick up a router (since he works from home and his died), he said there were lines to get in Staples, way too many people he said.
