It’s not a matter of “waking up” as much as “both sides have merit”. I agree that it’s time to start opening things up but closing things down was the right choice to start with to keep things under control while we could understand what we were dealing with. It was an evidence based approach looking at what happened in other parts of the world as the pandemic took hold. Now that we know more, it’s time to start opening back up and putting protections in place for those who are most at risk - and not just older folks. My brother, for example, is immuno-compromised but is also a teacher. What is he supposed to do when he’s told to get back to school and teach?

The best part about the 'see, it wasn't so bad after all' crowd is that it wasn't so bad after all because we took action. If there wasn't a response the death toll would be insanely higher.

I agree with HairyAss, I think we can have things open safely now that we know more. I don't understand all the hand wringing of people saying it's too soon. It seems based on some people's expectations, it will always be too soon. I was never under the impression that there wouldn't be a slight spike with things openimg up, or that we were going to stop this thing in its tracks. I thought it was about flattening the curve, which we have done, and I think we can continue to keep it pretty flat even with things open - provided that people are being respectful of new guidelines. It seems trendy for people to shout "omg no one is following the rules!!!" but even without 100% perfect compliance, we did a good job, and I think more people than not are being careful while getting back to somewhat normal life. For everyone saying opening now will cause a second wave, do you think there would magically be no second wave if we opened up later? The vaccine is still a while away yet and it's not feasible to wait until then.

I heard today they are starting to think this virus attacks the blood vessels which explains a lot of odd symptoms, like people dying from cardiac issues and kids with blue toes.

    Also fuck that Cambellton dr...

I don't think we over-reacted in the beginning - it was so new and we couldn't take any chances. But with precautions I think it's okay to slowly easy back into somewhat normal life.

Note, the math is broken today, probably due to the province and Northwood having different reporting intervals.

At the point NS is at, you could have started “easing back” weeks ago. Seattle still has around 150-200 new cases a day and I think we should be opening things back up.

NB had it's first death. Related to Dr Dipshit coming back from Quebec.

Apparently there is a lot more to this story that makes Dr. Dipshit far less dipshitty.

Yeah, I read that, on phone so can't get into typing it all out...but technically I guess he didn't break any rules. Still think he's a dipshit.

I've heard that a) he wasn't required to quarantine, b) he went to Quebec to pick up his child and didn't stop anywhere, and c) he contracted it from a patient in NB

No idea how accurate that all is.

    a) Undisputed, see CBC link, b) undisputed, and c) entirely possible; he found out on May 25 that one of his patients had tested positive - he had seen that patient on the 19th.

More broken math. Today's statistics indicate there are no active cases; however, the press release states there are two cases at Northwood (one resident, one staff member) and three hospitalizations.

I know one of the hospitalizations is at the Truro hospital. The person who did the testing for that patient is now undergoing testing herself and has been working in a department of the hospital for about 4-5 days with a bunch of other folks (my sister included).

Yikes. Hope everyone comes out OK.

Really not getting how the province is coming up with these numbers. One would think that total positive tests - (total recoveries + deaths) = active cases. Today that number is zero but we still have cases. Weird.
