Didnt you have a problem with with burning. Is this the same cd rom. Might be time for a new one. Anyway to get a cdrom to open get a paperclip and look on the front of the cdrom. There is a little hole. unbend the paperclip and push it into the little hole. It will take a little force and will only pop open a little bit. Go ahead and pull it out. Extract the disc you have in there and push it back in. This might be enough to get the rom unstuck. If not check the power cable going to the rom inside the puter and make sure the ide cable is securly atached to both the motherboard and the rom. Putting in a new rom is actually quite easy. Only two thing to remember. The red stripe on the ide cable goes to pin 1 on the rom and the jumper needs to be set to cable select. You can get a new dvd burner for under 100$ for a dual layer and under 60$ for a single layer one. G/l G.i.P
He's only running Win98, so I'm not sure how a DVD burner would work on his machine. New CD burners are only like $35 now, so you might want to look into one of them. I have a Liteon 52x24x52 burner that I've had for over a year and haven't had any problems with it. (I paid $100 for it at the time )
dvd burner will work in 98 havent heard anything to the contrary. Also a dvd burner will burn cd's too and will be able to be moved to a new puter when he upgrades. @Pun a needle will work also G.i.P
im tryin the needle!! fucker wont open work, im not even hittin anything, it's just going right in no problem!
shitty deals Pun theres a button in there somewhere. I miss it most of the time too but maybe the needle isnt long enough needs to be about 2.5 to 3 inches long. G.i.P
You can't read what I said? You're kidding right? I didn't say that it won't work. I said I'm not sure if it will work.
This would come across as you dont think it would work because he has windows 98.. Why would that be??
Sorry, maybe I should have worded it differently. He's only running Win98, so I'm not sure how well a DVD burner would work on his machine.
