So I was thinking about Miss Shawtys post with all the weight loss diet advice and I was wondering if there was anyone else out there struggling with weight etc... It might be cool to have a weight loss contest... weigh in our losses every week or something as a motivation... I've been doing weight watchers/gym everyday. Lost around 8 pounds in a month Now it's 7 more pounds and then maintenance
I would love to lose the 10ish lbs that I gained while on prednisone and I have been trying to monitor my portion sizes but with school and the weather I have a hard time motivating myself to get exercise. I need a gym buddy...Sara? I should also mention that have 3 roommates who aren't overly concerned with their weight and eat whatever in front of me makes it difficult and so does going from here during the week and then to Brads on the weekend is also a challenge.
I've been a fairly constant weight my whole life (give or take 10 pounds), so I'm just working on toning up.. I like sweets too much to try to win..
I really need to get back into it I dropped a fair amount of fat early last year, then summer hit and I got back into partying hard and never recovered. I maintained pretty well (I'm only ~5-7lbs above my lowest "weight" from last year) but I've lost a lot of my conditioning and health.
haha sorry Bailey but I cant guarantee much gym time, between school, work, hiphop and pilates I dont have all that much time left in my week. I did just buy a nubodys membership and i feel like a moron because I havent made it there in a week I am trying to lose weight though. I have lost 4lbs so far.
The idea behind the biggest loser bothers me. "Lose weight as fast as possible, or you lose." That's not a healthy way to go about it...
I've watched it a couple times, they have personal trainers and spend a lot of time going over healthy vs. not healthy foods, not just the 100 calorie portion of lays chips lol
Oh, I'm well aware they're monitored, but the eleventy billion fat people watching at home probably arent. To me it presents the wrong mindset. "If you don't lose lots of weight, really, really fast, you're a loser." Losing weight shouldn't be about dieting, or looking good on the beach. It has to be done by making better food and excercise choices habitually. Otherwise, everyone that loses weight, just puts it back on and then some when they revert to their old habits...
Right, they also chew long lasting extra sugar free gum to help with their cravings, and eat at subway, always fresh.
Thats why in my opinion its better to make the choice to eat healthier all the time, but its still ok to have a treat like a cheeseburger or some nachoes every once in awhile, if you cut all that junk down in your diet but still continue to eat it on occasion you can still keep it in your diet and still see results. Mind you, you still have to watch your portions and not just stuff your face on the junk when its "treat time"
I did weight watchers last year before i went back to work and lost 20lbs and kept it off... without the gym... I just got back to the gym with a nubodys membership...
I sincerely hope you're able to do it, but that's a LOT to lose in less than a year. Don't give yourself a goal that's too lofty. 93lbs x 3500 calories per lb of fat = 325,500 calories in a year to lose the weight. 325,500 / 338 days = 963 calorie deficit on average every day until January 1st. That's a BIG deficit.
I know, eh? None of the competitors keep it off, either. Because it's such a shock to their systems when they go back to "normal" life. They have a decent idea though, and I know it motivates me to get my ass off the couch when I watch it. But, they could do it a lot better. I mean, it's a big show with tons of money, so it wouldn't be hard to setup a water tank or something and do legit "body fat" weigh ins. Instead of promoting and encouraging people to basically drop and kind of "weight" (muscle, water, waste, fat, etc) as fast as possible. "You lost 6lbs this week, but 4lbs of that was lean mass". Give them a point for every pound of fat lost and take one away for every pound of lean mass lost, or vice versa (making the above scenario -2 in a "highest point total wins" competition). This would promote lean mass preservation and force them to take it slower. Seeing someone lose 15-20lbs in a week is sending the completely wrong message, in my opinion.
Exactly. I eat seven times a day on average. That's 49 times a week. If I can make good food choices for 44 of those meals, treating myself every few days isn't that horrible.
I run at a 1,000 calorie deficit per day on average from my calculated metabolic rate at the moment. It's not too difficult. I have a method that's working so far. Will have lost 10 lbs this month. So 10lbs per month for 11 months surpasses the goal.
Before my high school prom my mother tried to make me go on a diet. I didnt want to, and imo didn't need to. I followed the weight watchers guide to humour her for one week and I ended up losing 6lbs and then my strapless prom dress wouldn't stay up lol. I am following the weight watchers guide again at the moment however I havent been doing so great this week because Ive been much busier focusing on finishing up my applications for school on top of work and school work than getting to the gym. I feel so gross because of it. I will be happy after I get all these applications out of my hair tomorrow and can get myself back on track.
I did weight watchers, lost 20 lbs. Gained it back when I went off the rails in the summer though. Anyway, I'm using my diet power program. Calculates all the nutrients and calories in everything I put in it, and calculates a calorie "budget" for me each day, based on a deficit from my metabolic rate.
I have bad news for you then. The longer you run a big deficit like that the slower the weight will eventually come off, until it no longer will. Your body will only lose weight so fast and then it goes into "emergency" mode and starts storing everything you eat. So instead of losing weight you'll either gain it or just plateau. Eat more, eat clean, exercise properly and you'll be ok.
I liked the WW because I learned more portion control and how to integrate some of the things you enjoy at the same time... and when I stopped going I didnt put the weight back on...
I truely hope you do reach your goal Jenn, but just don't get discouraged if you find you are not constantly losing 10lbs/month. As you get closer to your goal, you may find that you won't lose the weight as quickly as you did in your first few months of your new program. The initial "shock" to your body tends to accelerate the amount you lose, stickly from a scales perspective. As you gain muscle mass vs burn fat you may find you cannot maintain that average. Again best of luck and stick to your goals.
I'm down for biggest loser RC, everyone weighs in, takes a pic.. then we'll have monthly weigh in's with updated pics
