I've been reading about this, and apparently even Dana White noticed it during the fight. I'll find the video but you can hear Dana say about it at the end of the fight

Because everyone knows he doesnt deserve a rematch. GSP is just a better fighter.

GSP could cover himself with superglue and the result would be the same.

He defiantly had grease on him - everyone can see that.

....so, what is going to be done about it? Nothing apparently.

George is still the better fighter, but he/his corner did "cheat" or attempt to illegally sway the odds in George's favor.

The UFC is changing who is allowed in the ring between rounds......ONLY the UFC hired cut man will ge allowed to enter the ring.

and GSP's corner man will likely face a fine/suspension

nobody is saying he didn't have grease on him. questions that arise are...

    a) Was it intentional/on purpose? I don't think it was
    b) Was it the difference in the fight? not even close...BJ plain got his ass kicked and his ego can't handle it.

Not sure if GSP *knew* it (and I don't know how he couldn't) - but the corner guy so intentionally rubbed him all over the shoulders and upper back when he had Vaseline on his hands.

I know he was supposed to be doing some MMA breathing technique (you could see him doing it), but I don't think the technique involves slow rubbing of Vaseline. You can see how the corner guy has his hand on GSP's chest and another hand on his back - all part of the breathing thing.....but non-nonchalantly rubbing your hands over the shoulders and neck to move Vaseline to those parts is not part of the breathing technique.

I'm no MMA expert, but I don't care who the fighters are, having a slippery body in a sport where clinching is paramount WILL make a difference.....but it is a difference George doesn't need as he is the better fighter.

I mean, honestly - why did this fight even happen? With the weight/strength difference, the only way BJ was winning is if he got a fluke punch in a la Serra or George had a brainfart and BJ luckily was able to slap on a submission.

This fight was over before it even started. :happysad:

But they get slippery anyways. I dont think Ive watched a fight yet where Joe Rogan hasnt made the comment that "they're sweaty now and very hard to hold on to".

That's so true.....first thing I thought when I heard about "Vaseline-Gate" was that they are always pretty slippery just with sweat.

Do they towel them down for sweat in between rounds?

I assume Vaseline is probably a lot worse than sweat for grip though (what little grip you can get in the later rounds).

BJ PENN is a crying loser! he got his ass handed to him. What else is the guy supposed to do, getting on national tv and telling GSP that he was going to kill him. I dont think he even got one punch in during the whole fight...

He is a punk and he got his ass kicked. I am sure after all this bitching he is doing, GSP will MORE than likely give him a rematch!

    Cheers

GSP agreed to a rematch a while ago, who knows if it will happen. BJ does this after he loses a fight, always blames everyone except himself. I wish this hadn't happened, because it does color the win. I think anyone who is more than a casual fan recognizes that GSP steadily improves while BJ.....does not. Another rematch will be more of the same. It sucks that if it does happen BJ knows the game plan that GSP will most likely use.

"Do I think Georges was trying to cheat? Absolutely not at all. But that cornerman was rubbing grease on him. You cannot do that

To me that means he didn't think the cheating was intentional. Not that it never happened.

Dana has also said it didn't affect the outcome of the fight. Or was it the guy from NSAC? Someone said it. And isn't cheating always intentional? By definition? Unintentional cheating? Never heard of it. I've heard of mistakes...accidents...

I'm curious to watch vids of other corners in between rounds and see what is common practice.

thats an oxi-moron....you can't "unintentionally" cheat. Either you cheated by trying to knowingly get around the rules....or the rules were broken unintentionally...in which case you were not cheating.

Other than this formal complaint with GSP to the commission, everything else has been heresay. I was just curious about this past rule breaking with Jackson's fighters, but Ya Got Nuttin'!

Oops! Ya got me! GSP is a low down cheater!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For Shame!!!!!! Cause Matt Serra and Matt Hughes said so!
Seriously though, I know some articles have said that Hughes and Serra have said that, but they did not make any formal complaints. And Serra beat GSP once, as did Hughes, that doesn't really seal the deal for me. Koscheck has said GSP didn't feel geased up. I just think the fans can really discredit a hard working athelete through gossip on forums.
BJ is not innocent in trying to spread gossip (expressing his disbelief that GSP isn't on sterioids?!). My opinion is that a commissions ruling or investigation is what I'm going to listen to. And I'd love to see a direct quote from Hughes or Serra. I have heard that they have said that before, but I haven't seen it directly quoted.

Weight cutting is part of the game and really hilo boy should stay at 155 which is his natural weight. The cut plays havoc on your body and is difficult to recover from when done to extremes. So props to GSP for being a pro and cuuting and recovering properly.

Gsp had a bit a vasoline on his upper back for sure. This help slightly negate Penns high guard but overall did not affect the outcome too greatly.

The biggest factor in GSP's wins was his determination, conditioning and overall skill.
