next season i'm being inducted into the PCA @ Mosport racetrack start with skidpad, then advanced driving lessons.
Unfortunately Road Racing isn't easy to come by on the east coast. We pretty much have one track and there's only a couple of lightly popuated IT/GT series. Lots of Solo 2 and a few Solo 1 though. I know quite a few people that run in the Ontario region though.
If I lived in Ontario I'd be hitting up the trackdays all the time! I'd be all over it. But, as Gord said, it's a little thin down here, so I only compete in Solo2 (and while I have done the Solo1 school, haven't had the balls to compete yet.) I run my 04 RX-8...
how do you like the RX-8? i've heard they're pretty weak, but a fuel remapping can free up some extra horses
Honestly the "pretty weak" thing is the typical internet-know it all blow everything out of proportion. The car is down a few HP, but it's light, and with 238hp it still isn't slow. (European mags w/ 228hp Euro cars are still cracking off 6.4 0-60) The thing that's hurting it is the way the car responds on a dyno.. it tries to protect it's self, and so gives low readings after it retards the timing at high RPM. As anybody who's driven in my car can attest, it's not weak. I can break the rear loose in 1st and 2nd gear... that's enough. But, like you said, there are a couple fuel-map projects on the go (one of the most promising Worldwise is by a guy out in Calgary actually) and they have been finding another 15hp or so of mid-range and top-end power with a "stage 1" tune. (Stage 1 is A/F only, no timing etc, meant to work on stock intake and exhaust) So the car has a fair amount of potential. On top of that... well... just watch the Top Gear video review of the car.... They preferred it (on a track no less) to a 350Z. http://www.nashwan.org/topgear.wmv *Edit: Added link to video
I currently road race. Have been running GT-1 Corvette for 2 years, 570hp, tube frame, all the usual bits... I have run at Mosport, wicked track, VERY fast. Have fun, don't get addicted.....
I've road raced for the 4 seasons and solo II's for a few years before that. I've got an ITB scirocco for the track and a turboed rocco for solo's. I've been to mosport a couple times, pretty cool track, definitly has some major pucker factor turns.
Solo racer here! Addicted the first time I did it! If I had a proper & safe car to track, I'd be all over it....until then, it's solo!
